Listening Habits
Curious how people are actually listening right now. I play music for people in a room, in a box, sometimes in my own home. When you put on new music, are you Walking? Driving? Cooking? Lying on the floor?? At work with one earbud in. There’s no wrong answer. Just interested in the habits.

@Robert Erbes pretty well! You can get creative and limit yourself by genre and time period. Worth the sticker cost.

@Travis Ballstadt KEXP made my public transit commute so much more enjoyable!
The song you weren't ready for
So, I have songs and albums that are slow burners. I know you know. You almost get mad at yourself for not loving it from the go. I liked OK Computer at first and well, it's near the top of my all timers now. I do this on the show as well. I love it actually as I can hear from listeners who are also "getting it" along with me. Is there a song from this past year that didn’t land at first—but later found you when you were ready? Those are often the ones that last.

Water From Your Eyes - "Playing Classics" - I tend to like these busier sounding songs after a few listens, but the first listen on this one just overwhelmed me. Initially found it to be abrasive.
Album for Specific Mood?
Is there an album you only really listen to when you’re in a very, very specific mood? Like, any other time feels like the wrong time if you’re not in that mood? Kind of like an anchor? For me, Radiohead’s The Bends is the album, and it surprises me because I’m a casual Radiohead fan, but that album was there for me and is still is. Anyone else with that kind of surprise affection?

Gareth Liddiard of the Drones released a solo album called Strange Tourist, and it's really like a long poem. Every so often, I have to listen to the whole album, but there's definitely not a single or any conceivable way to divide it up. I have to be in a slightly depressed/contemplative mood to listen to it. Not a happy album, but masterfully done.

Back on my Game Theory this week. And a lot of local. Fun fact: Mike Vernon Davis was involved with at least 3 of these records.

Coral Grief & Bully made their way on to a lot of my playlists this past month!

A mix of mostly favorites from the last few years. Pretty heavy on Remember Sports & adjacent projects (Carmen Perry & Spring Onion (Catherine Dwyer) solo albums). Some Christmas but I honestly don't remember listening to the Waitresses-must have been the radio streaming while at work. I played the heck out of my old Squirrel's digital album though. Long live Rob Morgan. Still obsessed with the new Dazy ep and the new Hatchie. Seeing Jay Som tonight, who produced this gem of an album; a busy year for Melina. New Packaging is so good too. A nice evolution from the sound of Spirit Award for Daniel. If there's one in here you don't know already that I could beg you to listen to it would be yungatita. Great band of folks from the L.A. area. Cheekface endorsed (took them on tour a couple of years ago). Great indie pop.
