Can't stop won't stop
I have a habit of telling literally anyone, including the Safeway team that picks our online order for pickup every week, about some band or song that I love. I'm glad they are cool with that. (screenshot from my wife chatting with them this morning-I think this was the kid who I was encouraging to check out TeZATalks.)

I love this!
First Show
I've considered doing a Morning Show about this but I only have 3 hours. It would take me 3 months. So mine was 16 years old, Jane's Addiction with Mary's Danish opening at Eastern Washington University. I remember walking in to "Coming Down the Mountain" and seeing bodies flying in the air, everyone wearing black, just absolute MAYHEM and all I wanted to do was more of this! I stayed out the pit that day and just stood there in awe to be seeing and hearing the music from a band I loved. I was HOOKED. I think they played 30 minutes because Perry was a mess but I didn't know any better and in fact was shocked when I saw a band play longer! Also first show in Seattle? Pixies. Moore Theater.

I saw Mary's Danish in college while visiting a friend in San Diego. But that wasn't my first show. The first: The summer of 1984 I was almost 15 years old and travelled with a group of friends to Calaveras County Fairgrounds in California to go the Mountain Aire festival. It was such the 80s line up: Berlin, Huey Lewis and the News, The Cars, (special guest!) Ratt, and compared to the others at the time, the still somewhat up and coming REM. REM was my favorite that day and along with U2 who I saw soon after (Unforgettable Fire tour), they were the two bands that anchored the music of my teens.

I saw them on the same tour in SF, also with Iggy Pop - what a fantastic first show, Eric!
The Morning Gothmas Show
Thanks @John Richards for another reminder of why I support KEXP. I hope this tradition sticks around.

Oh my - I had too many work meetings yesterday morning so need to go back to the listening archive this weekend. I did fortunately manage to catch a very small set of John's show while driving into the office: the brilliant song trio of My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, The Devil Does Drugs - Dark Chisme, Desire My Soul - and a Kazak Goth Metal cover of Dancing Queen!
My first shows of 2026!
I'm excited that my first 2026 show purchases are St. Vincent and Mavis Staples! And a recently discovered 2025 show - Corinne I saw your note and somehow didn't know that The Beths are coming here to Portland until last week even though I certainly look out for them. I'm happy to say that I'm going to see them on Nov 14 (the same week as Cut Copy and Neko Case!)

We have tix to see Jeff Tweedy next year as well. Happy to hear that the Yule benefit was so good (although not at all surprised). I wish I could have been there!
Concert Buddies: Neko Case SEA and PDX 11/14-15
Hey music loving friends. I'm going to see Neko Case tonight at the Paramount, as well as tomorrow at the Roseland Ballroom in PDX, in case anyone wants to meet up for a beverage beforehand. I'll be at the Six Arms tonight around 6:30-ish? Don't know about tomorrow as I'm not that familiar with the area near the Roseland. Open to suggestions!

Hi Marco - How was last night's show? I have a slightly different two night pairing - I saw the Beths here at the Crystal Ballroom last night and I'll be at the Neko Case show at the Roseland Ballroom tonight! Would be great to meet up before but I'll be there with my kids so arriving closer to start time. Please DM is you'd like to have a drink between acts at one of the Roseland's bars.
