Above the rim boys 🏀
During our screen and roll drills last weekend, my high school guys wanted to showcase and test out their new vertical by getting above the rim with lobs.

Spain Going Well 🇪🇸
What’s up fam! Checking in at 5pm in Spain. It’s Day 2 of camp over here. It’s been a grind but getting some great work in. The structure is: Morning: Double Espresso shot and a Croissant 2.5 hour skill session led by myself and Atlanta Hawks Assistant Coach. Mid-Day: Beach time Night: 2.5 hour skill session 😅 We have 21 players from Spain, Italy, Israel, USA, and more It’s been a great experience, can’t wait to share with everyone

Camp Academy Athletic Development Ideas / Themes
Hey everyone! My first camp in July was a success, and mostly in part due to 30-45min sessions I held in the morning teaching these young athletes various Athletic and Performance Development skills. Each day was a different theme: Building an Engine (cardio), Building Confidence, Leadership, Communication. My next camp is this coming Tuesday in August and I want to spice things up. What other major skills would you recommend I teach them at ages 11-13, that are applicable to Basketball & Life? All suggestions are welcomed! Cheers, Coach Sin Hardwood Hustlers Academy

Meeting Athletes Where THEY Are At
One of the biggest mistakes coaches and trainers make is assuming every athlete needs the same thing. Some athletes need to be pushed; some need confidence; some need more freedom to explore; others need structure and accountability. The best coaches don't force every athlete into the same system. They adapt their coaching to the person in front of them. That doesn't mean lowering your standard. Rather, it means understanding where the athlete is today so you can help them get to where they want to be tomorrow. We're developing humans, not just athletes. You have to understand where they are coming from. How do you make sure you're meeting each athlete where they are instead of coaching everyone the same? 👇

I have a proprietary data analysis system and use my NBA draft pro Combine assessments to give them a rank. Everyone is different and I can then focus on each athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. It's still very hard to accommodate everyone but some parents choose to add on private training that helps, otherwise I try to group the kids with similar weaknesses together to try and improve them together ❤️
What Would You Prioritize in a First Session With a Beginner Big?
I’m beginning training with a true “big” who is going into 9th grade and currently has a very limited skill and movement foundation. For a first session, what would you prioritize assessing and developing? Would you focus first on movement and coordination, catching and ball security, footwork, finishing around the basket, or understanding how to get open and operate within the flow of the game? I want to avoid overwhelming her and identify the few foundational skills that would help her become more functional and confident on the court as quickly as possible.

I would start with footwork around the rim ASAP. Crafty "bigs" are a nightmare to guard and can get away by not being super athletic or tall.
