Great job putting in the work! Keep it up. (sorry I do not have any advice)
Better body position on steep face jumps
I have been working on this jump for a little while and I finally decided to get the tripod out and get some video of it. It looks like my hips shoot back a little as my bike leaves the lip. I think this causes my legs to absorb the jump and I don’t get as high as I would like to. I usually have a small case on the jump after this one. That case prevents me from finishing the trail. Does anyone have any mental cues “something I can say to myself as I hit the takeoff” that can help combat this issue? Is there another problem with my form? Cheers.

Update I am making some progress with the “crouch and pop” technique. I have spent about 5 sessions working on it. This technique is helping me to have better body position as my bike leaves the jump. (less hip angle, straighter legs) The first pic is the session that I started, and the second pic is the most recent. Hopefully I will be able to use this technique on the bigger jumps soon.

Update I am still making some progress with the “crouch and pop” technique. So far, I have spent about 14 sessions working on it. Right now, it is much more difficult to implement this technique on the more challenging jumps. I am anxious for it to become part of my muscle memory, so I won’t have to think about it so much. During the practice sessions I have been exaggerating the technique on the smaller jumps and then trying to do a micro version of the technique on the bigger jumps. The good news is that even the micro version of this technique gets me noticeably more airtime. I also bring notes to the sessions. They help me stay focused on what I am supposed to be working on. I think the notes and videos have helped me progress faster. I added a clip from my last session and a pic from my first video vs my most recent video. I still have more work to do but it is good to see my body position getting taller and straighter on the lip.
Cornering
Cornering I finally got some video of a couple corners. The clip with the berm is the Soldiers trail and the clip without the berm is the GOAT trail. For these clips I tried to think about “elbows out”, and “lean the bike”. I also used a marker to indicate where to finish braking. I am not sure what to start working on first.

Hey Levi, Thank you very much for the detailed feedback. I’m excited to get to work on this.
Working on jumping
Hi! I’m trying to improve my jumping this season so I would love your feedback. I keep landing rear wheel first. Maybe I’m not getting tall enough in the air off the lip? Let me know what you think would help. Thanks!

Hey Laura, Great videos! Getting video was a huge part of my jumping improvement. It seems like I have spent a million hours at the 6 pack with similar results to what is in your video. One thing that helped me improve was spending a lot more time at the pump track at Boise Bike park. It forced me to maintain better body position. (Like a dolphin jumping through the waves). Now when I ride the 6 pack it feels smooth and effortless, like a bigger version of a pump track. Keep up the great work!

Great work! You look really good on the lip. I think you have the hardest part nailed! Hopefully you can start to enjoy the airtime. (don’t try to land too soon) You may also want to think about a more forward body position in the air and on the landing. I know it is a lot to think about, but it will help the features flow together. Using a hardtail on the pump track is a very safe way to get the correct feeling. You probably know this but just in case you don’t, it is best if your bike seat stays behind all parts of your body during the entire jumping process. I apologize for the unsolicited advice, but it seems like I was in your shoes just a short time ago. Keep up the great work!

My #1 focus is improving my jumping. (all types of jumps) My #2 focus is berm turns. When the berm is very tight and the dirt is a little loose, I start to have problems.

@Levi Weert Thanks Levi, I have not seen the goats only trail at EBP, I will definitely check it out. I also like the idea of working on hip jumps after I get the “crouch pop” technique figured out. The first jump on the A-Line trail is a big 90 degree hip. I have not been able to figure out how to ride it and I have to go around every time (not cool).
