Better body position on steep face jumps
I have been working on this jump for a little while and I finally decided to get the tripod out and get some video of it. It looks like my hips shoot back a little as my bike leaves the lip. I think this causes my legs to absorb the jump and I don’t get as high as I would like to. I usually have a small case on the jump after this one. That case prevents me from finishing the trail. Does anyone have any mental cues “something I can say to myself as I hit the takeoff” that can help combat this issue? Is there another problem with my form? Cheers.
Better body position on steep face jumps

I decided to add a “crouch and pop” to my jumping routine. Before today I did not crouch, I just focused on staying forward and pushing my feet into the jump. My hope is that the “crouch and pop” will improve my body position on the steeper face jumps. I added a clip of one of my first attempts at trying the “crouch and pop”. I did it on a smaller jump. It looks like my timing is very early. Should I start the pop immediately after the crouch is complete, or is it okay to do the crouch early and hold it?

Update I am making some progress with the “crouch and pop” technique. I have spent about 5 sessions working on it. This technique is helping me to have better body position as my bike leaves the jump. (less hip angle, straighter legs) The first pic is the session that I started, and the second pic is the most recent. Hopefully I will be able to use this technique on the bigger jumps soon.

My #1 focus is improving my jumping. (all types of jumps) My #2 focus is berm turns. When the berm is very tight and the dirt is a little loose, I start to have problems.

@Levi Weert Thanks Levi, I have not seen the goats only trail at EBP, I will definitely check it out. I also like the idea of working on hip jumps after I get the “crouch pop” technique figured out. The first jump on the A-Line trail is a big 90 degree hip. I have not been able to figure out how to ride it and I have to go around every time (not cool).
Big win this week! (Sage Fright)
This is my kids favorite trail and I have wanted to ride it with them for years. I have spent most of this season and all last season at Boise Bike Park working on improving my body positioning and this week the work finally paid off. I hope this doesn’t sound like bragging, I’m just excited. I look forward to hearing about everyone else’s successes. Big thanks to Levi for helping me with this win! I couldn’t have done it without him! Cheers!

Hey Guys, I’m very stoked to be part of this awesome riding community. I have been working on my skills for a few seasons now and I’m excited about the progress that I have made and I can’t wait to start learning new skills. I mostly ride park with the kids. I look forward to seeing you out there (I’m the super tall guy riding Transition bikes) Cheers!
Working on jumping
Hi! I’m trying to improve my jumping this season so I would love your feedback. I keep landing rear wheel first. Maybe I’m not getting tall enough in the air off the lip? Let me know what you think would help. Thanks!

Hey Laura, Great videos! Getting video was a huge part of my jumping improvement. It seems like I have spent a million hours at the 6 pack with similar results to what is in your video. One thing that helped me improve was spending a lot more time at the pump track at Boise Bike park. It forced me to maintain better body position. (Like a dolphin jumping through the waves). Now when I ride the 6 pack it feels smooth and effortless, like a bigger version of a pump track. Keep up the great work!
