Where to start with style?
I’ve been on this journey now for a while. Eight years since I retired from the military. If you were to just start with one outfit, what would it be. When I went into civilian government work, I was required to wear dress shirts, slacks and a tie. The tie requirement has gone away and I no longer wear the tie but I’m still wearing dress shirts and appropriate slacks. I guess my question has two answers for me. In the warmer months, I pair a nice polo with dress pants and sometimes jeans. I wear Chelsea boots a lot and try to pair my boots and belt with the outfit. When it starts to get cooler, I almost exclusively wear dress shirts, but sometimes change it up with Chelsea cowboy boots and jeans. So what is one great outfit to wear?

@Antonio Cent awesome. Thanks Antonio. I’ve been reluctant to wear a jacket so far. But, I’m gonna give it a go.

Great look! I have a rust colored casual dress shirt. I was reluctant to try it but it works great with nice jeans. How might I pull that shirt off in summer with dress pants?

Robin and I attended The Shamrock Club’s music festival. Robin wore one of her new dresses with a blouse over it, I am wearing a traditional grandfather shirt of a cotton linen blend, grey trousers with green accessories. Not seen are a pair of brogued boots.

You pull that look off fantastically.
Knowing the dress code and ignoring it
Hi Gents, If the unwritten dress code is super relax gym like attire but it's not a gym setting, do you ignore it and bring your outfit up a few notches to the casual level and dress how you want or dress like everyone else? What would you do?

Hi Carlos, I work in a place that actually has a dress code. But most everyone ignores it. In my humble opinion, I dress it up probably a little more than the required “business casual “. I think first impressions are very important and I feel good about myself when I look good. I probably miss the mark sometimes, but I try because I care. I do believe in trying to be the best version of yourself even when it comes to style. But I also am a big believer in doing what makes you feel good about yourself. Personally, if it’s me, I would show the example of what dressing like a professional looks like. Hope that lends something to your situation. Sam.

@Carlos Z that’s exactly where I’m at. I don’t worry about what other people wear. I dress the way I do because it makes me feel good about myself and gives me a confidence edge. And at this point, coworkers just realize, that’s the way Sam dresses and when I see and meet people who don’t know me, I’m treated with a different respect than if I was dressed down. It’s a great feeling. Like you said, be the man you know yourself to be!

@Ali Khashab congratulations Ali. Sounds like you have a great future ahead of you. And I can tell you from experience you are way ahead of most 30 year olds as far as caring about how you look. Good luck in your endeavors.
