Talk to me about fine-tuning vs RAG+Agentic AI
What are the pros and cons of (1) fine-tuning a base model on proprietary data, (2) using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows with a general-purpose model, and (3) combining both approaches? Links to resources discussing this would be awesome.

@Khanh NguyenThank you! I just started this classroom last night.

@Yux Pan had never heard of RAFT before but it makes sense to me. I can imagine a few uses cases in my work where this *seems* like it would make good sense. But still learning so all TBD. Thank you for your response and the link to amazon's blog post!

@Marcio Pacheco went through this with some colleagues today. Also spot on. https://community.cisco.com/t5/security-blogs/ai-model-context-protocol-mcp-and-security/ba-p/5274394
The Future of Software Development and AI
Hi everyone, I recently had an interesting conversation with a fellow software developer who expressed concerns about the future of our industry. With AI advancing rapidly, some are questioning whether software engineering and AI development will remain secure and high-growth career paths. Personally, I believe software development and AI engineering will continue to thrive, and the demand for skilled professionals will only increase. Fields like AI, machine learning, and automation are shaping the future, and companies worldwide are actively investing in these technologies. As someone preparing to start a BSc in Applied AI at 32, I’m excited about this journey but also understand the uncertainties many people might feel when considering a career in tech today. What do you think about the future of software development and AI engineering? Is studying Computer Science or AI still a smart choice? How do you see AI impacting programming jobs over the next decade? Do you think automation will replace software engineers, or will it create new opportunities? Let’s have an open and insightful discussion your thoughts and experiences could help others who are unsure about starting this path! Looking forward to your insights. Thank you for your time.🙂

IMO For devs there will be a significant difference between devs with access to LLMs to do their work (like through cursor, copilot, etc) and devs who don’t have access. The divide will grow. But there will remain a need and a job market, the job will just be more about getting the LLMs to write good code and the dev’s ability to assess what was written. Idk maybe there will come a time in the near future where the human assessment isn’t needed. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Stuck in (Working with Environment Variables video)
I need help, I've been working on this for a while, and I truly want to understand how to solve this and move on to the next step. I keep getting the "NameError: name 'dotenv_path' is not defined" I've double check everything and trace back my steps, but no luck, both ".env" and "environment_variables.py" files are in the same folder named "Code" when I run the "dotenv_path" it gives me that "NameError: name 'dotenv_path' is not defined"

I actually had a problem with the instructions in the video too. Editing - when I ran the code in the interactive python window with shift enter, the `find_dotenv` was not finding the file. I removed that code and just called `load_dotenv()` without a path parameter and that works. When I ran it from the command line, both worked. I'm running on python 3.12.9 I haven't played with other versions of python to see if it changes yet, but just in case anyone else has a similar issue, wanted to drop this here.
