The Future of Software Development and AI
Hi everyone, I recently had an interesting conversation with a fellow software developer who expressed concerns about the future of our industry. With AI advancing rapidly, some are questioning whether software engineering and AI development will remain secure and high-growth career paths. Personally, I believe software development and AI engineering will continue to thrive, and the demand for skilled professionals will only increase. Fields like AI, machine learning, and automation are shaping the future, and companies worldwide are actively investing in these technologies. As someone preparing to start a BSc in Applied AI at 32, I’m excited about this journey but also understand the uncertainties many people might feel when considering a career in tech today. What do you think about the future of software development and AI engineering? Is studying Computer Science or AI still a smart choice? How do you see AI impacting programming jobs over the next decade? Do you think automation will replace software engineers, or will it create new opportunities? Let’s have an open and insightful discussion your thoughts and experiences could help others who are unsure about starting this path! Looking forward to your insights. Thank you for your time.🙂

Thank you all for this incredible comments, and great different perspectives. It really helps to see things from diffferent angles. My personal opinion that we cannot for sure predict the future, but what I know and what intuition and my inside desire tells me is that I need to learn programming and pushes me to do this. So I really don´t think AI will replace, I think AI will enhace humans and elevate them to another level, specially sofwtare and AI engineers. AI is learning really fast, by the end of the year Open AI will have AI developer that is ranked #1 in the world. I´m happy because of these things, why is that, because now the gap has closed. Juniors can advance to higher levels faster, so much faster. The need for technical knowledge will never dissapear, even if AI do this task, you need to know what AI is doing. So i believe that software and AI engineers will be much more needed and demand for those two are extremely high. :)
