@Richie Drummer I have no answers. But I don’t see the issue as straightforward as you do. I’m not saying you are incorrect. I just see this as a complex and highly nuanced problem. By way of background, I have a law degree and practices law from 98-02 at which time (after 9/11) I left private practice and served as a medical operations officer (healthcare administrator). I retired in 2014 from the Air Force and decided then not to renew my attorneys license. There are a lot of interesting and important legal issues. I’m just starting off from a different point than you. You decided SUNO ripped off artists. I’m starting out from 1. how different do humans learn from how machines learn? 2. If learning is similar —pattern learning—then will the courts extend fair use to machine learning as courts have extended to humans learning. If yes, then AI learning musical patterns is protected. But there are other legal questions. How did SUNO get the works, did they download them? Can reproduction have to be significantly different (whatever that means) to receive protection? In short, I’m viewing this from a legal perspective. I’m not concluding SUNO is all bad and musicians deserve compensation. I’m looking at this and wondering how the courts will rule. I guess that is an abridged and better response. Let’s see how this moves along. I have a link to website with all the court filings most of which are free. But it’s a lot of reading and I’m not that wedded to the issue. Keep drummin!

@Tom Baldwin the issues merit discussion. I commend everyone on this platform seeking to understand. I am looking at this from a different lens. I have a law degree and practiced from ‘98-‘02. Left practice and returned to active duty service after 9/11. Retired from USAF as a medical operations officer (Hospital administrator). Didn’t renew my license in 2014. All of that to say that there are a lot of interesting legal questions. I’m trying to understand the issues from that lens. 2-3 hours a day and very little progress to show for it lol. Talk soon.

@Richie Drummer that’s funny! My friends in Germany refer to toilet as “Sitting on the pot” whereas my Dutch friends tend to pull out a lighter. In the states we just use a bit more crude phrase “ taking a $hi!” There is a great documentary of the drummer for Steely Dan coming up with a melody to a song they recorded in early 70s—he was sitting on the toilet when he came up with the melody. He used the crude but more aptly appropriate American phrase.

@Richie Drummer I envy drummers. I wish I would have picked up that skill. To me drums can add such life to a song whereas a guitar—ehh-not as much. I’m a guitarist and play piano and play bass lines typically from left hand piano. I always lean on a drum groove to fill out my ideas. As I’ve posted earlier, I recently switched DAWs to Logic Pro. It has been a smooth transition. But drums! Organic loops just don’t do it for me, the drummer session player is better especially when I use arrangement track. Still I haven’t found anything organically that moves along with my rhythm ideas. I find building a drum track with loops or god help me piano roll tedious and liken it to musical seamstress—splice, slice, stitch, and sew together on a computer following the play head needle like my mom followed her sewing needle in her 1971 Singer sewing machine. I envy drummers. If you have some method of building a drum track using standard songwriting format that’s not 90% computer editing please share the resource and I’ll dig in.
