An independent artist always being someone who uses generative AI? As an artist you are the creator, you are the creative person, etc.... AI as the creator VS the creative artist. Generative AI replaces a person who convinces himself/herself that he/she is creative, because the result is always better than he/she can conceive or come up with and there is quick self-gratification. Fast food AI slop VS real music, like Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Dolly Parton, Carol King, The Beatles, etc.. So much stuff that sounds way better. AI rights.....what's that? You giving "your" music to train the model? You, never getting full rights? You, not giving credits to real artists? You, never feeling the gratification of creation? Etc... But, that's my opinion. Also, this should not be in the general discussion but in the AI topic 😉

@Geoff Holmes He recorded the YouTube song with a Neumann clip on mic. Sounds nice to me. But mostly he records stereo, using XY recording technique using Neumann 84i pair or currently the Neumann KM 184 pair. But, he also owns some quality guitars, which make a big part of the sound of course.

@Tom Hiester you can always give me a ping 😁 There are some things i notice in the arrangement and production. Busy here and there, little dynamics verse->chorus. I like the drums coming in as from 1:55. Makes it more interesting and groovy. Less hi-hat/shaker volume would be nicer. I think some of the additional instrumental layers can be positioned better, and less volume as well. It makes it feel crowded sometimes. And I here some rushing of the instruments here and there. But, that's just my opinion 😉 How did you record this? It's an interesting composition with potential though!

Using the original voice with a new arrangement is legally a remix, not a cover. - No automatic right: You cannot legally publish this without permission. You are using the original master recording (the voice track), which belongs to the record label. - Content ID detection: YouTube’s system will easily detect the original voice. - The outcomes: The copyright owner will decide what happens. Your video will either be monetized by the owner (they get the ad money), blocked in certain countries, or hit with a copyright strike.

@MooN Anas The thing is that you don't want to be blocked by YouTube, and such. So, you'll have to reach out and get permission to use the original vocals. - Master Recording Rights: Original vocals belong to the sound recording, which is owned by the artist or record label. Using them requires a master license. - Composition Rights: The underlying lyrics and melody belong to the songwriter or publisher, requiring a separate clearance. Or you find someone to record new vocals. That would turn it into a cover, which have different rules.
