Hey All of You Yanks! American Music Fairness Act Needs Your Support!
There is a preliminary bill making its way through congress. Take a look here and contact your congress critter. https://musicfirstcoalition.org/ Click to join their growing movement to get Congress to pass the American Music Fairness Act so that artists are paid for their music on AM/FM radio. This affects us as musicians. If we're lucky enough to get airplay, it's another source of passive income....every little bit counts. Note: I have zero affiliation with these folks. Just supporting a good idea. Best, Terry Wellman The Museum Recording Studio Bach n Roll Music Ltd. Aurora, I (Chicago)

Open day (April 17th)
Tomorrow we're hosting a virtual open day for our audio school. We'll be joined by 3 students who will be sharing their journey through The Reverse Engineer program, and giving their best advice for those looking to reach professional quality in their music, or considering joining the program. @Caleb Loveless, our Director of Education, will also break down the curriculum, show you behind the scenes of our dedicated learning platform, and answer your questions about how our mentorship works. If you're serious about reaching industry-standard quality in your music, or you've already been considering The Reverse Engineer, be sure to come along. The open day starts at 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST and will last around 2 hours. RSVP here: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_SJtxxQYSRTSL0jUly8WeAQ#/registration Hope to see you there! Cheers, Rob

Starting My New Journey: 2 Plugins Per Week | 8 Plugins Per Month | 96 Plugins Per Year
I finally did an inventory of all the plugins I own… and the number is around 300 🤯 But they are useless if I don’t truly know them. So I’m starting a long-term journey of studying and testing each plugin, beginning with the most important ones. My plan: - 2 plugins per week - 3 days study per plugin - at least 1 hour each day - Sunday review of both plugins That means 8 plugins per month and so 96 plugins per year. I’m committing to some understanding how each plugins shapes tone, dynamics, color, and workflow. It’s going to take time and patience. But honestly… there’s no other way. Is there? Gotta do it!

@Luiza Milenova I meant to bring this up earlier. Joe E. Silva wrote “The MiniMoog Book” which came out a year ago. It’s pretty good. It contains history of the development, why what circuits were included and where they fell within the signal flow. Plus there are many patch recipes of original recordings. It’s like a manual’s manual.
What's your DAW?
What DAWs is everyone using and why did you choose that particular one or more? Mine is Steinberg Nuendo 4.3. I also just got FL Studio.

Logic 12.0.1. I have used Logic for many years and still find new features. Prior to Logic I used a New England Digital Synclavier for around 18 years. Very quick and easy to compose on and do sound design. Still do and slave it. The first seven notes on Michael Jackson's Thriller are all Synclavier. My DAW journey began with Opcode Systems on an original 1984 Mac. Wow have we come a long way over the years!

@Ted O'Farrell I jumped from Opcode to working on a Synclavier 9600 with 64 voices and their 16 track Direct-To-Disk digital recorder in '86. That system was known as the Death Star as nothing could touch it. Not even a Fairlight, which was cool in its own right.

My mains are Westlake BBSM-10’s. https://www.westlakeaudio.com/#:~:text=BBSM%2D15F,resolution%20and%20low%20I.M.%20distortion. I absolutely love these. T Bone Burnett said this about these monitors, “The world would sound better if more music was recorded and mixed on these monitors…” I couldn’t agree more. At some point I would like to find a BBSM-10SWP sub woofer. That would dial it down to 26Hz. Next I have an original pair of Yamaha NS-10’s for my main nearfields. Industry standard of yesteryear. I was recently told that with the growing desire for vintage sound, these are still valuable and desired. I also have a pair of Tannoy PBM-8’s. They’re ok. I bought them before I got my hands on my Yammies. They tend to register further down the bottom end. My last ones are a pair of Auratones. Back in the day, these were my final test before laying mixes onto commercials.
