Struggling (all my life, it seems) with de-essing
Hey all, one thing I've noticed is that esses sound different (and worse/lispier) when the volume is low. Anyone else have this same perception, and why is that? What are your go-to de-essers? I've tried BSA's DSR, XVox Pro's De-esser (in the vocal chain), Izotope RX-11 De-ess, and iZotope Nectar 4 DeEsser with really no luck.

@Robert Haskell Thanks very much, Robert, yes! I think this is a big help, as I've used at least a couple of these ideas in the past but haven't used them recently, so I need to dust off the cobwebs from those corners of my brain! Thanks too for the tips and details on your workflow to tackle this!
Unpopular (Audio) Opinions
Kevin McCloskey posted this in The Reverse Engineer community and it was a super interesting thread... so posting here too! Comment below with you biggest unpopular audio opinions... don't hold back 😈 I'll start with a couple: 1) Most gear preferences in the industry are baseless and random. People just follow the crowd and are easily influenced into think things sound "better". 2) Seemingly in contrast to the above... anything other than an SM57 on a snare is a waste of time. We're so used to this sound that it immediately sounds "right" to us.

Quick survey/question on this topic: What is everyone's experience with listening to songs in .wav (lossless) vs. .mp3 (compressed, but high-quality)? For the longest time, I really couldn't hear the difference, but then I started "feeling" something better with the .wav files, though I still don't know if it was just psychological. I should try to do a blind test and see if I can tell the difference or if it's just my imagination.

@Ari Tiainen Ah, yes, good point, and maybe it's no coincidence that I only started hearing the difference after I got my Ollo X1's!

Headphones and glasses? Advice needed...
Hi guys, it's a simple question but until now I found no good solution. For editing I need both, but thatt's pinching, and therefore distracting. These headphones are non negotiable (fat, heavy and over-the-ears); I'd modify at least the glasses. Any experience, good idea, advice how to deal with it ... would be helpful. Thanks in advance! 🌼

Hey Mailin, this problem sounded familiar and I remembered that there were solutions for this for pilots wearing headsets. With noise-cancelling headsets, not having a tight seal around the ear really impacts the noise cancelling performance. There's a company that makes sunglasses and readers with very thin over-the-ear stems, and I think they'll do the same for you with prescription glasses. Been playing and singing for 45 years, I'm on a mission to release every song I've ever written, but I want them all to at least be radio ready!
