Am I the only one
Does anybody know Chris Herbert? Says he's a millionaire and is giving $20, 000 to a few people. Has anyone else seen this on Mastering.com. I see he's deleted it today.

Is this happening because of the mastering.com revamping of the Skool. I want Berling and our Release Party back. Things were going GREAT. Didn't have this problem before. What up wit dat?

@Tom Hiester Thanks Tom but, I should have my royalty check soon and it's going to be more than enough. I think I may be able to squeeze out a McDonald's kids meal with what's left after I purchase my Bus Pass.😃
The future of music?
I often think about what our mission is at Mastering.com. It's something that's constantly in flux. On the surface, it's pretty simple... to become the world's #1 audio school. But why bother? Why is that important? Ultimately, it comes back to music. And I believe that music is undergoing a radical change right now (along with many other forms of art). The act of creation is shifting. AI is forcing us to ask questions about what music and creativity means. And without going on a massive detour around all the different reasons why music is important (maybe another time)... I keep coming back to one core idea: Pure creativity. Being a "purist" is not always a good thing... But the more time goes in, I keep coming back to this word. -- → What is "pure creativity"? Pure. What does it mean? A quick Google defines the word as: "Not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material." There are so many ways in which the creative music making process can be adulterated in today's world. I think it will become increasingly important to defend against these influences as time goes on. There are many practical decisions you will need to make as a musician and artist that will become increasingly vital. -- → How much of the production, mixing and mastering process do you hand off to others? Since you're reading this and you're on our mailing list, it probably means you've already decided that taking the production process into your own hands is important to you. I think this will become increasingly so, and the alignment and ownership of all elements of the music creation process will help you create in the purest way possible. Of course, there is a benefit to collaborating with third parties, and it simply depends on your goal. But the ability to write, record, produce, mix and master music yourself puts you, the creator, at the center of it all. -- → How much are you willing to use AI? This is the big one, and the talking point.

Hello to all, there are many valid opinions in this conversation. I'm not going to say that I know what the future will bring as it pertains to this conversation of Ai. But, When I read that a record company gave a $3million dollar contract to a Ai artist, makes me think that with all the lawyers that a big record company has, they must have it all worked out, legally. ....so they think. Purchasing an already established Ai company to produce Ai artist, that is scary. Remember the consumers don't have the knowledge we have about how human music is made, finalized and put in the ears of consumer. They just want some more new but, good music. And I've heard some completely Ai generated songs that sound pretty darn good. Good enough that most consumers are going to buy it. With a lot of human artist listening to the top artist and not necessarily copying those artist but, trying to sound so much like the top human artist, lets face it, it's hard sometimes to say immediately who this song is by. To many Snoop Doggs, a few Marvin Gaye's, Drake's, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, etc. sound alikes out there. Not pimping Ai but, I think it won't be that difficult for people to cheat and have complete Ai generated songs /bands / artist to sell to the public who are hungry for something NEW. Sampling is one excellent example that took off and is still being used more and more by people young and old that never played an instrument, or actual musician, and producers and more that have gotten good at combining samples, and coming up with complete songs to release. When sampling was introduced people talked about it like they are talking about Ai. Again laws are being discussed about what's legal and what's not. I agree nobody should be able have a song completely done by Ai, and say you created it. If I tell a human producer the genre of song, the theme / what the song I want should be about, the tempo, background vocals or not, male or female lead, and instrumentation, and the producer hires the people to get it done, then I can not claim that I created it. Seems to me to be the same with Ai. No Matter! There's a world of hurt ahead of us in regards to Ai. A world of decisions making by music creator and law creators concerning Ai.

@Paul Ratliff I like this one Paul. Because I feel that on our journey of learning, we hear 100 ways of going through the process of producing, mixing and mastering. We are shown how to use compression, reverb and all the other toys/tools. But as we grow with all that info, we inevitably acquire our own workflow.. It is included in the journey, we just don't know it.. We'll get there. I've notice in small increments that I am developing a workflow that I did not have before. I have go to tools now, with known reason for selecting them which is part of my developing a workflow. "Keep That Music Flowing" paul👍
Mastering Makeover
Who can submit a song for the makeover? And I did not see any info where to submit a song on the RSVP page. Why is that info not mentioned on the RSVP page?

Thanks Brian, I stumbled on the link after I text the question. Much appreciated.👍
If Santa offered to bring you a single piece of audio gear…
What would it be? Right now… for me it would be a toss up between a Massive Passive, Pultec… or The Swift from Thermionic Culture. I’ll let you know if I decide 🤷‍♂️

@Ralph Galetti Yeah Ralph, if we could go back to graduation year of high school with the knowledge we've gain from Mastering.com, we'd be the talk of the town, and probably have a few songs.....NO!.... a few Albums, on the Billboard charts, steadily moving up the charts. And some Gold & Platinum records on our wall. [in a perfect world....right?].😃 I have one Gold Record on my wall, but it's not for creating something from nothing in my name. It's for playing percussion on 3 or 4 songs on Ronnie Laws "Friends & Strangers" album. Nice, but of course not as good as writing 3 or 4 songs on the album.Dang! 😫😫☹️😃 I say to everyone ....i'm not dead yet....it could still happen. I'm trying to stay disciplined, and stay on course, getting better and better, little by little.....and make it happen.👍 You Got This Ralph!!
