Intuit just signed a $100M deal with OpenAI… here's why that matters for accountants
Big news: Intuit (the company behind QuickBooks, TurboTax, and Mailchimp) has partnered with OpenAI to deeply integrate AI into their product ecosystem. This means apps like QuickBooks will soon be able to connect directly to ChatGPT. So, what does that mean for us in the accounting space? 🧠 AI-powered workflows are about to get much more practical inside tools we already use 💬 Client conversations, forecasting, and compliance could soon include real-time GPT guidance 💻 ChatGPT connectors to QuickBooks may reshape how we do reconciliations, reports, and insights 💡 Opportunity for firms who understand AI first—before clients do it themselves And one big thought: If this becomes mainstream, how will your firm differentiate itself? I’d love to know… 👉 Are you using any GPT integrations or AI tools inside accounting platforms yet? 👉 How do you see this shift impacting your work? Drop your thoughts in the comments 👇 (And if you want to read more, here’s the original article: TechCrunch link)

Do we know what they are using now as the source for their AI? It will be interesting to see if this greatly improves the product or creates more of a mess. I also fear that this upgrade will be the justification for an over inflationary rate increase. I am watching some GL software that is starting from a strong AI base, not trying to add it into their ecosystem. That seems to be where Intuit has struggled.
🆕 GPT-5 Updates You Should Know About
Some big changes have just landed for GPT-5 and the model picker in ChatGPT: ⚙️ New Speed & Thinking Controls You can now choose between: - Auto – ChatGPT decides for you (best for most people) - Fast – quicker responses, less deep thinking - Thinking – longer reasoning time for more complex tasks 📈 Thinking Mode Limits - Plus users now get 3,000 messages/week with GPT-5 Thinking - After that, you’ll still have extra capacity with GPT-5 Thinking mini - GPT-5 Thinking has a 196k token context limit (great for bigger projects) - OpenAI may adjust rate limits in future depending on usage 🔄 Model Picker Changes - GPT-4o is back by default for all paid users - Paid users now have a “Show additional models” toggle in ChatGPT web settings—turn this on to get access to models like o3, o4-mini, 4.1, and GPT-5 Thinking mini - GPT-4.5 remains Pro-only due to GPU constraints Have you tried switching between Fast and Thinking yet? What’s your first impression?

I tested GPT-5 by giving it 3 different spreadsheets (registration sheet, financial transactions report, deposit report) to combine information for me from a software that doesn't have great reporting. It was kind of a messy project because I didn't have a great prompt, but it did a much better job than earlier models. It could recognize names on different sheets even if it wasn't exactly the same format. It also suggested a couple ways to display the information that was super helpful. I had it create a summary of what we did. I haven't tried the Automation it said it built, so I don't know if that works yet. The other thing that was very nice is if I had question about a certain player's payments, I could just ask and Chat would give me the details. It takes a lot of clicks to see this information in the original software, but now I can just download a couple reports and find it easily.
If Your AI Assistant Were a Pet… 🧠🐶
FRIDAY FUN: If your AI assistant had a personality and showed up as a pet, what kind of animal would it be... and why? Would it be a wise old owl that gives perfect prompts… or a hyperactive border collie that gets everything done fast but never stops asking questions? 🐍 Is it sly and strategic? 🦜 Chatty and colorful? 🦉 Calm, mysterious, and always on point? Tell us what animal your AI assistant would be—and explain the logic behind it. Maybe even give it a name! 🎯 Bonus points for attaching an image (real pet, AI-generated image, meme, or sketch). Let’s see your AI companion in the wild!

Chadwick (named after Black Panther star,) but call him Chad, also said Border Collie for me! I have a great pyrenees mix, so he then created a mix of those two. Here's the image. The 5 model still doesn't get the image great when words are used, but hopefully that will get better.
