New forest painting
I haven't posted any work lately. Here is one I just finished of a sunlit opening in the forest. I really tried to focus on the form of the large "dead" tree in the middle of the composition. Although it is slightly off center, it is the focal point of the painting. It is actually a hardwood tree that has lost all of its bark and most of its limbs, allowing light to come in for the new growth as you can see in the two saplings on the right side of the picture. The saplings leaves are capturing all that sunlight and just glowing with bright green. I tried to keep the shapes of the leaf masses general and allow my brush work to describe the forms.

You'll see EVERYTHING: β€’ My initial sketch and composition design β€’ How to nail those tonal values (this is where most paintings fall apart!) β€’ Complete value study walkthrough β€’ Mixing those gorgeous autumn colours without the mud β€’ Creating atmospheric depth that makes viewers stop and stare I know so many of you struggle with: ❌ Muddy oranges and browns ❌ Flat paintings with no depth ❌ Not knowing where to even start This Monday's class will change that. You'll finally have a clear, proven framework for painting landscapes. No more guessing and no more struggling alone. Inside Sam's Art School you get: ✨ Weekly LIVE painting classes (every Monday NZT) ✨ Watch the replays if you can't make the live classes ✨ 50+ tutorial library (including my new acrylic tutorials!) ✨ Direct feedback from me ✨ 400+ artists all improving together ✨ Painting critiques Plus: 14-day money-back guarantee, and you can cancel at any time. You'll have a clear, repeatable process that can give you consistent results. No more hit-or-miss paintings - instead, you'll develop the skills to create work you're genuinely proud of. Imagine actually being excited to show people your paintings instead of making excuses for them. (Yes, some of our members are now selling their work!)

Broken Vase
Hello, This is my first submission here. This is a pencil sketch. My very first attempt a few years ago at art. I have since gone into oil painting and only of late started becoming more serious with my paintings. Will share them at a later stage. Still trying to find my feet. Would just like some feedback.
