Getting glutened
Hello everyone, I'm recently diagnosed and have been on a gluten free diet for a little over a month. I've been as careful as I can be but I am still bombarded with new and old symptoms. Sometimes eating makes me feel so tired I end up falling asleep. Last week I had a weird episode that lasted 2 days where I was shaky, weak, had joint pain, felt like I couldn't breathe and a high heartrate. I almost fainted walking 100 yards to the mailbox and had to call in sick. Has this happened to anyone? How do you know when you've been glutened? Are these symptoms of being glutened or is it because my diet needs work/my body getting used to the new diet? I know I am vitamin deficient but haven't been able to afford vitamins yet, unfortunately. Thank you for reading! I don't want to complain, I am just confused. I feel like I don't know my body anymore.

I totally know how you feel, it can be so discouraging to feel like you're doing everything you can to feel better but still experiencing symptoms. What's hugely helped with knowing whether I've been glutened is to write down my symptoms in my notes app. I have 3 sections for gluten + one for dairy (am allergic to that too): immediate, the week following, & ongoing. For me, immediate looks like nausea, bloating, vomiting, etc. Week following is more like constipation, cramps, brain fog, etc. Ongoing is things like fatigue, anxiety, nutrients deficiencies. Dairy for me is bloating, less severe cramps, skin issues. It helps to have this also so when you go to the drs, you have a clear list of everything you experience & for how long after your gluten exposure. Also with the supplements, I'm taking iron, B12, Vit D, Vit C, Vit D, magnesium, and these have hugely helped my health & energy so I hope you can afford to take what you need soon. Do give yourself grace & patience as you're healing bit by bit, you'll get there eventually! Hope this helps & hope you're feeling better soon 😊🫶🏻
Social gatherings
I am feeling a little left out today. We are having a luncheon at work. I did make a lunch to make sure there was a safe option for myself. We were told that dessert would be taken care of. I arrived at work and realize none of the options are GF. I know my celiac is my responsibility. It would be nice to not feel excluded.

I had this today, my boss gave me a company card & told me to grab a receipt for my smoothie at the cafe nearby :) yes coeliac is our health condition, but our employers ideally should be ok with providing equivalent alternatives 😊
Sugar free chocolate cake
Hey team, Can't remember where this recipe is from but I made it this week & it was good! Would recommend serving with ice cream or yogurt to go with the chocolate 😊 Combine: - 8 chopped dates - 3 eggs - 1/4 cup olive oil - 1/3 cup coconut milk Blend until smooth, then mix in: - 1/4 cup cocoa powder - 2/3 cup almond flour (recipe asked for chestnut flour but I substituted) - 1.5 tsp baking soda - 1/3 tsp cinnamon Finally, add: - 1 tsp vanilla - 2 tbsp orange juice - 2 tsp orange zest Bake at 180°C for ~30 mins, a knife should come out clean. Top with chocolate ganache: - 1/3 cup chocolate chips - 1/4 cup milk (I used canned coconut milk) Melt these together & mix until smooth. It's a bit runny so wait until cool enough to spread on cake (I didn't and it got a little messy 😅) Pictured: half of the cake left after 2 days...I may have had like 2 pieces a day lol

Random coeliac disease facts
Hey everyone, Thought I'd jump on here & start a thread because I've been doing a bit of research over the past week & I've learned some random & useful things about CD. For example, I discovered that laxatives are ineffective for us, and that we're at higher risk of miscarriages if we get glutened. So I thought maybe we could share some different facts we've found out about the way our bodies work with this condition & help educate each other 😊

@Bryony L That's so interesting! I have a dedicated chopping board but didn't think to check wooden utensils.
Brain Fog
Hi all. New here!! So I've been diagnosed with celiac disease and have had brain fog for about 2 months. I went gluten free 5 weeks ago and its gotten slightly better. My question is has anyone else dealt with this and how long did it take to go completely away? I still can't drive because of it.

I get brain fog when glutened too, I've found that focussing on restoring my gut health bit by bit has helped, along with slowing down, pacing myself & giving myself grace for experiencing this. I defs second the above comments around iron levels & other deficiencies, I have low iron & B12 and taking supplements for this has also helped my brain fog. Hope this helps <3
