Circles vs Lines: Why Some Work Builds and Some Just Repeats
There’s a passage in Atlas Shrugged where the author describes something subtle through the experience of the main character. She draws a distinction between two kinds of motion. One kind completes itself and disappears. You finish it.. and the next day you’re back where you started. The other kind accumulates. Each step carries the ones before it. Each day adds to a growing whole. She frames these as circles and lines. Circles are closed loops. Necessary. Repeating. Self-contained. Lines move from a start toward an end. They have direction. Continuity. Meaning over time. What struck me is how relevant this is for entrepreneurs. A lot of us are busy every day. Emails. Calls. Fulfillment. Admin. Fixes. Those things matter. They keep the engine running. But if all your effort lives in circles, something feels off. You work hard.. yet nothing feels like it’s building. On the other hand, lines without circles don’t work either. Big goals with no supporting habits collapse under their own weight. Meaning seems to show up when the two are connected. Circles that feed a line. Daily effort that clearly advances something larger. Work that doesn’t reset to zero when the day ends. That’s often the difference between productive fatigue and draining exhaustion. I don't think the author meant the symbiotic relationship I'm suggesting.. but it's how I see things actually working. So here’s the question I’ve been sitting with: Where in your life or business are you running circles with no line? And where are you chasing lines without the circles needed to sustain them? That answer usually points to what needs to change next. šŸš€ - James

Funnel Lab Update | Behind the Scenes - January This week has been a big one for me, so I wanted to share a quick behind-the-scenes update as we head into a new year. Like many entrepreneurs right now, I’ve been planning my 2026 goals and asking myself one simple question: - (You have to take @Doug Boughton's 2026 Annual Planning Training - Straight Fire!) What are the things that have actually moved the needle in my business over the last 3 months? Here’s what has become plainly obvious to me: People don’t struggle because they aren’t capable. They struggle because they don’t have a clear path forward. When there’s no clear path, you spend all your energy trying to figure out the next step instead of actually doing the things needed. That lack of clarity is what slows progress — and creating a solution for this is what’s been driving my focus lately. Here’s a snapshot of what I’ve been focused on the last couple of weeks: - Finished building the funnel for an upcoming 5-day challenge (running in the next couple of weeks) - Continued offering FREE setup calls for OfferLab members (I'm extending through January) - Completed @Doug Boughton 2026 Annual Planning training and built my execution calendar for 2026 - Continued to build and help my Collab Profits community members and refine my value-based content - Helped 4 OfferLab members with my free set up calls where they left the call with thieir offer created & launched. I also made sure they left the call with an actionable their next steps plan so they can know the next step. (I’ll be sharing one of these calls soon — there’s a lot to learn from it) I Am Moving My 5 Day Challenge to the 17th I planned to launch my 5-day challenge, but I decided to take another week to refine it. I’d rather push out the date than rush to launch something that doesn’t fully help people move forward. My success is 100% dependent on the success of the people I help, so I gotta make sure that it does that!
