Broken Heart? Your Vagus Nerve May Be The Culprit
Heartbreak literally broken? Maybe your vagus nerve is ghosting you. Scientists snipped cardiac nerves in mice, mimicking a bad breakup. Their hearts aged faster! Fibrosis spiked, ejection fraction tanked. Ouch. Think clogged highways and grumpy heart cells. The vagus nerve, it seems, whispers sweet nothings (acetylcholine!) that chill out angry inflammatory molecules. No vagus? Inflammation party! But here's the plot twist: electrical zaps jumpstarted those nerves. Fibrosis? Reversed! Like a love song rewinding time. So, boost that vagal tone! Meditate, breathe deep, maybe sing to your heart. A happy vagus = a youthful ticker. Who knew?

Yes the acetyl choline is the chemical that the vagus uses as its neurotransmitter. So if we want to rehab the vagus, we need to make sure we have sufficient choline and also vitamin B5 to make it. ( stress uses up B5).

Hi! I’ve been using vagus nerve stimulation techniques for a number of years now. One of my favourites is just to incorporate some eye work in with my daily yoga routine. Moving the head in all directions of the Union Jack ( left, right, up, down, and both diagonals), whilst keeping eyes softly focused on a spot in front of me. As soon as I get that yawn, I know I’ve engaged the nerve. 😊
Gut repair?
Long covid has caused all kinds of GI issues. Can this be used to treat the gut? Thanks!

I am doing some further professional development into the effect of SARS- cov 2 on health even 2-3 years and more post infection. There are few tissues in the body that don’t have the Ace 2 receptor where the virus can have serious effects including our autonomic nervous system. This is why so many people have suffered from GI issues both affecting the gut itself but also the nerves serving the gut which largely is the vagus. Good tone in the vagus is highly anti inflammatory but it’s also innervating everything that needs to happen in the gut; from saliva production, hydrochloric acid, bile, pancreatic enzymes and so on. Rehabilitating the vagus is, imo, hugely important. 🤗

@Chris McCalla Sorry to hear about that. Fingers crossed you will get some rehab going on.
