Thursday Question (a bit different today 👀)
Today’s question is a bit different… I am already starting to plan next year’s webinars, and this community should be part of it. Which speakers and topics would you like to see in future webinars? Let’s build it together – curious to hear your ideas in the comments below.

I think it would be interesting to hear perspectives from different participants of handball - for example referees, their way of preparing for games, their behavior during the match, etc. Would be fun to ask them some questions also. Not sure if you had someone in this direction but sports psychologist, especially someone working or who worked for a handball team or with handball players. Those would be two fields that come to my mind.
Win or learn Monday 🧠
This weekend showed again how important 7m shots are. Two cup Final4 were decided from the line in semi-finals. In our recent webinar, Julian Rux also mentioned that SC Magdeburg have converted relatively few 7m shots this season. What’s your win or learning when it comes to 7m situations?

I would be very interested in other coaches experience regarding in-game 7m shots. No statistics no data - just your gut feeling. Would you, always, change your first option 7m shooter, after she/he miss their first 7m shot in the game? Or would you let them shoot the 2nd one than? What are your experiences during your coaching career.
Recap: Julian Rux Webinar
We had a really good session with Julian Rux 🙌 And somehow, it raised more interesting questions than answers 🤪 — which is exactly what we want here. And at one point it felt like he predicted Magdeburg losing a game on 7m 😅 But actually, it just shows how powerful data can be when you understand patterns. A few thoughts that stayed with us: - Are we maybe overvaluing simple stats like goals? - Do we really look at shot quality — or just outcomes? - How often do we adjust our game based on our strengths… instead of copying others? - One key takeaway: 👉 Data should help us reflect — not make things more complicated And also: 👉 The biggest value is before and after the game, not during We’d love to hear from you: 💬 What do you already track with your team? 💬 Where do you feel data could help you more? Let’s use this space to exchange ideas — that’s what this community is about 🤝

My personal experience was that there is no number of data points or their quality that can help you if you: 1. can not properly read them 2. do not know how to use them 3. do not properly understand, analyse and than practice it My first two seasons as a head coach of a senior team I did not have any statistical data. Not during the game not after the game. I watched all the games, I watched my opponents, made short videos for my players and myself where I identified the attacking and defensive concepts of my team, their most influential player and tried to, as best as I could, copy it into practice. I saw what happened in the games and presented it to my players. After two years I started using some help with statistical data and to be honest never properly understood how can I use all of these information to: 1. prepare my team to their next games 2. use it to make my team better. Again, this is only my experience and especially lack of my knowledge in data analysis and implementation. Conclusion from my side, especially I was not a full-time head coach - I have a family and also a full-time job so did not have infinite amount of time for data analysis, would be to use only the data that you now how to properly interpret, share the knowledge to your team and use the data to practice in order to make your team better. If you can handle live-data during the game and understand them, go for it. If not and you do not feel comfortable, why then doing it? Maybe it is better to invest that time during the game to speak with your assistant coach or to your players and than make live-game decisions...
Thursday Question (late this week 🙈)
Missed it last week and a bit late today, sorry… but I didn’t want to skip it again. Watch this clip 👇 Thursday Question:How much should a team adapt to the strengths of one exceptional player? Curious to hear your thoughts – let me know in the comments below.

My opinion is that the team should adapt to, not only the star or exceptional player, but also for example, depending, if we stay in handball, on your back court players or pivots, to adapt their setups in attack. To clarify, here I am only speaking about tactics not about team culture. Team culture, approach and mentality are not adaptable. That is for everyone, no matter their handball quality. But tactics, that should be adaptable. I will never be a fan of playing the same setup plays, no matter what the current team is looking like. We need to clarify between team standards, culture, approach and specific game/training tactics and handball approaches. Adapt your game to every player, to use their strenghts and possibly hide their weaknesses. I every single practice, game, minute, action. And also start doing in the youth teams - why not adapt your attacking play around an extraordinary 1v1 player - why not set everything up so that she/he have the best possible situation created for them. That makes them better and makes your team better.
WIN OR LEARN MONDAY 🧠
Sometimes you win. Sometimes you learn. One thing you would do differently next weekend after what you saw in the last game?

Depending on the post-game analysis but also based on my personal experience, I would be more brave and try to influence the game more and not just play it out. To elaborate: be brave with substituting, be brave with possibly changing defensive system and be brave with calling the set-plays in attack. One of the worst feeling after a defeat, for me as a coach was, having a feeling that I was not brave enough in making decisions and calling shots.
