Sometimes you win. Sometimes you learn. This weekend: Did you learn more from a mistake — or from something that worked really well?

I was lucky enough to hear a talk from neurologist Dr. Wolfgang Lalouschek about the structure of the human brain in regards to happiness, stress, dopamine, goal setting and achievement and how all of that can be useful for humans, organizations and leadership. One of his main insights/theses showed that a (healthy) dopamine release works in three steps: 1) Goal formulation and the desire for achievement 2) The efforts themselves to work towards that goal 3) The (immediate) experience of success/process made Such insights - as well as the single-tasking anatomy of the brain or reasons for stress - can be very much applied to player motivation, practice structure and leadership/coaching, at least in my opinion.
