Skate suggestions
Hey everyone. I'm new to skating and want to get a decent pair of quad skates. Any recommendations? Thanks.

We settled on Suregrip Urban’s (leather boot, metal plate), Wifa and a set of Chaya’s after a lot of trial and error. Initially I tried an Amazon suede pair for my oldest son (to see if he would even stick with it) but quickly learned about plastic plates and got him out of them before they broke. The suede boots (we looked at boardwalks too) didn’t give him enough ankle support. It’s very much a learning curve, trial and error process. If you have a great local shop that helps. We found a wonderful shop not local to us but they are fantastic with recommendations and support. Rollergirl.ca. Zoe is wonderful and they actually care about getting you in something that will work for you at that point in your skate journey.
How to tie skates
I know this might be a stupid question but is there a certain way you should tie your skates? I feel like I never just feel comfortable in my skates or do I just need to break ‘em in cause there new I only used3 time I believe but even when I was skating before hand i felt restricted and couldn’t do what I wanted to do. Idk 😭

I had the same question when I started and found the same picture attached above. I settled on the usual lacing method while incorporating my toe stops. An experienced skater told me about tapping my heel to make sure it is in the back of the skate and tightening the laces while my skates front wheels are in the air ensuring my heel is snug in the back. And most importantly double tying the laces and making sure there are no loose laces that will try to trip you up 😂

@Jay Griffin glad it is useful! It was super helpful to me too 🙂
What to wear at the Roller Rink? 🦄
I’m still relatively new to going to actual roller rinks. What do people usually wear? A friend is having a party this weekend at the rink and I’m stuck with what to wear. (I’m over 6ft with skates on and cute little outfits just don’t happen). - I’m thinking shorts / tall socks or leggings. Safety and comfort are my first priority. I still use my helmet and wrist guards because I’m still figuring things out and clumsy.

Skating Styles
How did you come across the style/s you've chosen? Was it a see & mimic thing? This is the main style of skating in my area.. Something you felt within you that resonated? Started one way & migrated towards something else? Skate one way solo & another with friends? Or something completely different? I've seen the clips of the different styles of skating & wondered how people came across their chosen path of style.

I don’t think I have a style yet or maybe it is “trying to not fall” 😂
What are your 2025 Skate goals?
Share your 2025 skate goals! Skills wise what do you hope to improve? Meeting skaters? Travelling to a rink or event you've never been to?... Im working towards mastering sit spin by summer and hopefully 5 comfortable hurricane kicks. Aiming to skate 3 times a week whenever possible and get to more street skate meets with my local skate community. Holding myself accountable here so hopefully I'll be looking back at this post soon enough having achieved them and maybe more along the way. 🤞🏼🛼🌪️

2025 is going to be making time to get the skates on minimum 3 x a week. Aiming for consistency not perfection to hopefully see some progression.
