Got it moving!
Thanks for all the help from the community! I’ve got a few limit switches yet to be installed and a drain plug to fit and weld, but I’m seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Chat GPT worked amazing well, not just in helping with the YAML code but in figuring out how the ESP32 works as well, Amazing! Thanks for that tip Grant!!
New Guy
Hi all, just a car/garage guy that's always looking to learn. New to welding and excited to learn. Thanks Steve

Welcome brother.
300 Members 🎉
Big milestone for the group as we hit 300 members! Thank you all for contributing and helping each other. I love seeing the community we are creating! I would also like to give a big shoutout to @Carlos Molina For making the most posts in December for the December challenge that I gave you all. Carlos your effort and drive to become better is exactly what I want to see in all of our members and you are exactly the kind of person that I want to help make their effort pay off.

Congratulations! Many more to come.
Electrical box is complete.
I am discovering that writing yaml code for the ESP32 controller is way out of my comfort zone! It doesn’t like anything I have written, and I’ve been working on it for two days now. Very frustrating because I don’t know what I'm doing wrong.

Ok that’s really good to know. I have never used ChatGPT but just finished downloading it a couple minutes ago.

Great info, I’ll keep all that in mind.
Z axis and floating head is complete
I converted the original right angle torch into a machine torch by disassembling the plastic torch body/handle which I disposed of except for a 1 1/4 inch section on the torch end. That part I cut off and saved because it’s needed to incapsulate the brass torch assembly. I added a clear polypropylene tube which has a heavy duty hose clamp on each end of the tube. I think this will work but if not I will let everyone know. I’ll have some pictures posted soon. Just a quick note on this z axis: The way it’s built is very different from most in that the motor and ball screw along with the torch all move together when the motor shaft rotates. The only part that remains stationary is the ball screw nut and the bearings.

I’ve spent 25 years getting paid to teach USAF pilots how to fly while learning to weld. I’ve turned in my wings and going for broke in metal fab.
