Vacation is over what now
I came back from vacation to 924 emails and 99+ messages on my MS Teams. But reviewing it all wasn't my first step when I logged back in, instead I reached out to all 4 people I delegated my tasks to and asked for a quick status, and I reached out to my manager to see what my top priority for the day is. What is your first step when you get back from a longer vacation?

Like you Gerard I tend to check in with all my clients first, make sure there aren't any pressing issues they've been sitting on while I've been away (and haven't emailed to me) and then I allocate time to reduce the email backlog over the next couple of days. I do a bit of a triage scenario to scan through and find anything that looks like it's desperately in need of attention, and then once that's dealt with, I'll work my way down the chain. I'm also a horrible person at taking time off and I'm usually pre-loading in bits and pieces on the last couple of days of vacation, at least to plan out the first couple of days :P
I need some help with 1:1
I would like to give an advice to a friend of mine who does not really know how to run 1:1 with his team. Can any of you share some wisdom on how you approach this type of meeting, both as a manager and as a IC

@Brad Pepers This is the way!
ScopeCap
I've started to work on the document describing the first topic proposed by @Nauman Mithani . Here is the link -> https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zprJUzpimkU4nU56dQGkxMHb3kI_gW72sqoECfJ_pyQ/edit?usp=sharing Please read it and review it, comments are encouraged and welcomed. After the document is done, I till turn this into a PPT of some sort and record the video presentation of it.

@Gerard Pietrykiewicz I had a quick read through. Good format and lots of good information here Gerard! I think in the spirit of the original question, maybe you could add some of your anecdotal experience in the challenges of putting together teams and getting them to work together?
What qualities do Leaders need?
When I asked ChatGPT about distinct qualities of leadership it generated the following: - Visionary Thinking: The ability to see the big picture, set direction, and inspire others to follow. Empathy: Understanding and valuing the perspectives, needs, and emotions of others. - Adaptability: Responding effectively to change and navigating challenges with resilience. - Accountability: Taking responsibility for decisions, actions, and outcomes while fostering a culture of ownership within the team. - Inspiring Action: Encouraging and motivating others to take initiative and perform at their best. - Integrity: Leading with honesty, fairness, and consistency, which builds trust and credibility. - Effective Communication: Articulating ideas clearly and fostering open, two-way communication. - Collaboration: Building strong relationships and enabling teamwork to achieve goals collectively. What do you think should be on the list?

Leading by Example: you should be willing to do the work yourself and mentor others on how to do the work effectively and maintain quality.
