Question for trainers?
I had a hoopers 1-1 today & it got me thinking more & more about this question. How much do you take into account the handler & their individual learning style when running your training? A few times on my 1-1 the trainer has told me that I’m overthinking things & this is transferring to Freddie & affecting his confidence. ( which I appreciate is true) I’ve been working hard to try not to do this but on reflection I feel that if I’m overthinking it’s because I’m not at the unconscious competence stage so I have to think harder about the task. So my conclusion was if I’m an overthinker just telling me not to overthink wont help, same as if someone was scared of snakes saying don’t be scared won’t help. Do you as trainers adjust to handler as well or is it all about the dog? This is mostly my curiosity & interest 😁

Love this reply - your enthusiasm & dedication to what you do comes through in every reply you make ( even if the reply is sometimes a while 🤣) I find the whole coaching/instructing debate & peoples interpretation really interesting. I’m a driving instructor ( previously a preschool leader & toddlers are so much more fun than teenagers) Lots of people think because they can drive a car they can teach others but that’s not necessarily the case, same as someone with a well trained dog will not automatically be good at training/coaching other owners. I agree with all your points above & I find your system clear & very easy to follow. That last part about clarity is exactly my aim as an instructor - if the pupil is confused it’s on me

Good advise from your mentor I keep reminding myself “have fun” & make sure Freddie is too
Reactivity Training Examples
This week I've been training Smudge. A border terrier that's frustration reactive. I filmed some of the training and posted it for premium members in the reactivity resolved course. If you enjoy this kind of content then let me know. I am training dogs constantly so I figure it might be a helpful resource to post a lot of it in the classroom.

Dog bedtime?
Interested in what people’s views are on dogs bedtime 🤔 Do you have a set time? Do they go to bed when you go to bed? Do you have a bedtime routine?

@Holly Pearson it’s reassuring to know I’m doing similar to others in this group 😁 An online search can give such random answers, I’d rather trust this community
