Weekend Off-Topic
What's everyone been up to? I finished this book recently. The cover kinda sucks but I enjoyed it. It takes awhile to get going but it kind of reminds me of Jurassic Park in real life with Grizzlies. There had been no fatal bear attacks in 57 years and then on one night two women were killed by bears in two separate attacks in different parts of the park. The book tells the story.

The answer to that question is always ā€œtoo muchā€. As my brother said, my life consists of constant side quests

@Olivia Vasquez Haha, this is so relatable - dogs take up so much time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Our main focus continues to be Kairo’s play skills for the PWP Lab, alongside progressing our contact heel. Now that Kairo understands the concept of a contact heel (with source focus), I’ve been trying a mix of shaping and capturing to encourage her to choose that position herself. It seems to be working, as she decided to attempt an unprompted contact heel on my friend lol. Yesterday, Kairo had her first hoopers 1-2-1 in a while. The trainer commented on how much her focus has improved, so that’s a win! And today was her mantrailing assessment, which I’ve already posted here: Mantrailing Level 1 Assessment

Mantrailing Level 1 Assessment
This morning, Kairo passed her Mantrailing Global Level 1 Assessment! She completed a perfect trail in under 5 minutes (maximum time is 30 minutes) - so proud of her!

@Nick Benger Would you expect her to air scent more on this trail? She usually uses a mixture of both We do go to classes and I think there’s a minimum number of training sessions before you can attempt the assessment

@Nick Benger I agree, and her ground scenting body language is clearer too The beginner groups have a specific trail layer, but otherwise we all hide for each other. Since there’s only 1 instructor, one dog trails at a time and each dog gets 3 trails per session
Days 69, 70 and 71
Over the past few days, I’ve been focusing on Kairo’s play skills for the PWP Lab. These are coming along nicely, and we’re starting to combine multiple play styles into a play event. Alongside this, we’ve been training various bits and pieces - send away, DC, contact heel and random bursts of shaping. Here’s a quick update on our pivots for contact heel…

Day 136 Back in it for the year
Now summer break is over out every night with dog things again. First up is back to Hoopers class - I am running the class but managed to squeeze a bit of training in. Distance was not bad but lost some commitment to the barrel at distance so something to work on.

@Ave Paasuke Same, but we have the opposite problem - it’s too windy and the grass is too wet!
