πŸ† Weekly Challenge #29: Run With a View πŸ”οΈπŸŒ‡
This week's challenge: plan a run specifically to find a great view. Then stop and take it in. It doesn't have to be a mountain. A rooftop, a riverbank, a hill in your local park. Anywhere that makes you think "yeah, this is why I run." βœ… Rules 1️⃣ Plan and run a route with a view as the destination or highlight. Try to be INTENTIONAL! 2️⃣ Post in this thread: - A photo of the view - A description of the run (bonus points for a route screenshot πŸ“Έ) 3️⃣ Everyone who participates will be entered into the weekly spot prize draw. One winner will be chosen at random. 🎁 Prize: $10 TheFeed gift card (or something equivalent for your country) πŸ‘‰ Drop your run and view below once you're done πŸ’™

Soooo I INTENDED to run to this cool grave mound and take a photo from there on today's long easy run. But I also had stomach issues within a couple of km... And then decided to take a gel for practice anyway... Which was a mistake. I ended up in a hobbling situation. Made it to the outhouse at the base of the grave mound and afterwards felt like I'd lost so much time that I skipped the ascending plan and ran home instead 😳. BUT I still got some cool views on the way :P
Fueling Plan
How does everyone handle their fueling during a race? I usually just wing it and go by feel, although that is likely why I DNF'd last year. I was taking one Huuma gel about every 30 minutes and I was sipping on Tailwind the rest of the time. That is including whatever goodies I could find at the aid station. πŸ˜€ I have seen there are a few apps that help you dial in your nutrition. Has anyone used one? What ones do you recommend? I do not want to leave anything to chance this year.

I am not sure what I'll do for the HM in June but I know it will be Maurten and it'll be at least one gel every 40 minutes. I recently heard that some actually recommend taking one every 30 minutes, but I'm not sure my stomach can handle that... will see how it goes in training.

@Korry DuMont I used them in my first half last year and in a few training runs. I picked Maurtens specifically because it was meant to be easier on the stomach than other options and that seemed to have worked well (and I like the taste). But I'm still worried about the sheer volume of things sloshing around in there :D

How much to train in carbon-plate shoes before race?
I got my first ever pair of carbon-plated shoes (Altra Vanish Carbon 2), hoping to use them for the Midnight Sun Run. But I've only ever run in normal minimalist shoes and don't know how much training to do in these? I know overuse can make them wear out too much and negate the benefit. But at the same time I'm so worried they'll be uncomfortable or too small or something on race day. I'm done losing toenails! Tempted to do my long run in them tomorrow. What do you think? How many km should I put on them before the race to get the most out of them on race day? Thanks! (No comments on my ghost legs please)

Well, I did it! Went for a threshold run in them today. I removed the insoles so the size seems just right, and they felt great. My form felt pretty much the same as my regular shoes. BUT I ran into the dreaded heel tab issue despite wearing longer thicker socks to protect my ankles... Now both of my achilles tendons are torn up. I guess I'll need to use blister bandaids or something... or maybe just cut the heel tabs off? Do you have the same issue with yours @Ellie Mackin Roberts ?

@Jean Kool I did not think noticed any calf muscle loading differences on my run today - do you mean they usually load the calf less or more? Now that I think about it I might have felt a little less calf tension, but also figured that might be more from a bit extra padding compared to my normal shoes, vs the carbon plate thing.
