Why I Love Fasting for Self-Healing and Weight Loss 🙌
I know fasting can feel intimidating, believe me, I get it! I was terrified the first time I fasted for longer than 24 hours. The idea of going without food sounds very traumatizing at first. But what I've learned is that our bodies are so much more capable than we think. Let me walk you through what's actually happening hour by hour so you can see why this has become one of my favorite tools for both healing and weight loss. The First 12 Hours: "Emptying the Sink" This is when your body is still burning through the food from your last meal. You might feel a bit hungry during this phase, that's totally normal! Your body is just sending signals that it's running through the available food. Here's a cool tip: if you want to speed through this phase, this is actually a great time for cardio exercise because you're burning through that stored glucose faster. Hours 12-16: The Gateway to Fat Burning This is where the magic starts. Your insulin levels from your previous meal have finally dropped to a low baseline, and you're officially entering fat-burning mode. Your body has a sensor called AMPK that detects when you need to start tapping into stored fuel, and this is when it is activating! During this phase, light walking is your best friend. It helps accelerate fat burning and makes you feel so much better. And here's something beautiful - your body starts diverting energy to your BRAIN. From a survival perspective, when we go without food, we need mental clarity to find food, right? So you might actually feel more focused and clear-headed! Hours 16-24: The Goldilocks Zone Okay, this is where people have been misled for years. Around 16 hours, your body starts something called gluconeogenesis, and experts have told us this means you're "breaking down muscle." That's just not true. The research shows you don't start wasting muscle until you're fasting for longer than 36 hours (and even then, it's minimal if you're getting enough calories during your eating periods).

I'm recording the first lesson for the Food Freedom Formula tomorrow. If you want me to incorporate or answer anything else in this lesson or module, please feel free to share so I can help as much as possible. After 25+ years, I've seen clients thrive on every diet...omnivore, plant-based, low carb, carnivore all of it. Any diet can work. The key is understanding how to make it work for YOUR body, no matter what diet you're on. Here's what I will be covering in Lesson #1 for Food: - Why you can't out-exercise a bad diet and why nutrition is non-negotiable for both healing and weight loss - The truth about eating less vs starving yourself (big difference) and how it allows your body to heal - How to be sure you are properly nourished while also reaching your ideal weight - What macros actually are (protein, carbs, fat) and what each one does for your body - How to find YOUR ideal macro ratio by looking at your height, weight, goal weight, activity level, and what you enjoy eating - A real client story someone who had me, coaches, and every resource available, and it still took over a year to dial in the right macro ratio. They saw results on the wrong macros, but couldn't stick with it. So even if you see results, if you're not enjoying it and it's not aligned with your preferences, it's probably not the right approach for you. What I've learned is that the diet you enjoy is usually what's best for you. You can't force yourself into something that doesn't fit and expect it to stick long-term. This lesson will give you the foundation to understand what works for your body and how to begin to implement it.

I'm excited about this lesson. I'd like to know if it's best to eat 6 small meals a day or 3 with no snacks or 3 with 1 snacks. I've heard so many different things but as I reflect on my journey, it seems when I ate smaller meals throughout the day, I lost weight.
