Headphone recommendations for practice
Due to living in an apartment block, playing through my amp is difficult at the times I can practice, so I have to use headphones. Unfortunately my Sennheiser Momentum 2 headphones make my ears warm up after only a short while so I'm looking for suggestions from those in the know. :D
What’s a guitar solo that never gets old for you?
Not necessarily the fastest or most complex, just the one that hits you every time. Drop a YouTube link with a timestamp so we can all check it out right away. Could be something that made you fall in love with guitar… or just one that gives you chills no matter how many times you hear it. Let’s build a little inspiration thread here. Curious to hear what’s shaped your playing. Here's one of mine: Steve Lukather's improvised solo to 'Georgy Porgy' live in Paris. Amazingly melodic and full of cool ideas. The fact that he just pulled that off in the moment makes it even scarier.

Jeff Loomis's solos in "The Seven Tongues of God". This was the second Nevermore song that I ever heard (after "The System is Failing" on a Century Media sampler) in the winter of 1997 and I knew that I would be in love with this band forever. 3:50 to 4:58 https://youtu.be/-TTaay0Z7Lw?si=NVYQv9TwnPSofuZD&t=229
🎯 New Challenge: Yngwie’s “Magic Mirror” Interlude 🎯
This is the one you voted for — the epic interlude right before the solo in Yngwie Malmsteen’s “Magic Mirror.” (we'll do the bendy one next week) But here’s the deal:I’m not giving you tabs. Why? Because most of you will get the fingerings wrong, struggle more than necessary, and build bad habits in the process. Instead, watch the video lesson. I break down everything — exact fingerings, phrasing nuances, and key practice advice that’ll save you hours of frustration (and help you in other areas too). 💡 You can change the fingerings I suggest — but they’re not random. I chose them for a reason. So learn the logic before you improvise. 🎯 The goal? Eventually playing it at the performance tempo of around 150 bpm. But right now? Just aim to play it clean, at your current max tempo. If that’s 60 bpm — that’s still a win. This isn’t about beating anyone else — it’s about getting better than you were yesterday. The whole point of these challenges is to tackle something you wouldn’t have picked on your own… and come out better for it. ⚠️ And hey — do yourself a favor and don’t skip the lesson and then ask why it’s not working. That’s like assembling IKEA furniture without looking at the instructions and then blaming the shelf. 😅 Watch the video. Play smarter. Let’s go.

I just started learning this and I managed to get sections 1-3 down pretty quickly whilst watching the video at x0.75 speed, but section 4 is completely baffling. I might need to write out a tab as a reference or something!
Guitar gear in Tokyo
Hi everyone, I'm going to Tokyo for vacation and plan to visit some of the guitar shops there. I'll probably end up buying a lot of swag ;) Now for ny question: does anyone know if there's any guitar gear that's worth buying in Tokyo from a price or availability perspective (stuff that's hard to find here)? I should add that I live in Sweden, so this is probably mostly directed to Swedish members :)

@Mathias Karihtala For what it's worth, I live in Tokyo and speak passable Japanese, so if you're up for meeting for a drink and touring the guitar shops of Ochonomizu (or the other way around), then just say the word. :)

@Mathias Karihtala Awesome! If you could DM me your dates when you're all booked, then I can make space in the calendar. 😀
Pick matters
I know this is a very personal and subjective decision, but I think it's important to talk a little about the picks we use. I'm sharing this because of a personal experience I’d like to share with all of you. I used to play with Fender Heavy picks (0.96mm). I always felt like something wasn’t quite right when I used them, but I never paid much attention to it. I felt uncomfortable, mainly because my hands sweat, and whenever I tried to play fast, the pick didn’t respond the way I needed it to. One day, I decided to do some research and explore new options. After trying many different ones, I ended up with the Petrucci Trinity picks, and for the past year, that’s all I’ve been using. I feel like this change has really helped me, and they fit exactly what I need. The message is: if something doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to try new things until you find exactly what works for you. What about you? Do you have a special preference for any particular material or shape? What picks are you using right now?

@Orion Quest I've tried so many different picks, and have generally used Dunlop Tortex picks (mostly the purple 1.14mm ones, but also blue and green ones), but I bought some Yngwie picks because of the Swedish Shred Secrets course that I am struggling with at the moment. I've got the white 1.5mm picks. I think I also tried the Jeff Loomis signature picks, but they're too damn pointy and I keep hitting my guitar's body when using them.
