8-Week Legato Intensive Q & A is happening in 6 days
The hardest part of practicing is starting. I made something for that.
So I just hit 27 exercises in The Practice Lab and I wanted to share it with you all because honestly it's gotten to a point where I'm pretty proud of it. For those who haven't seen it yet, it's basically a collection of focused technique exercises built around the same stuff I talk about all the time. Alternate picking, legato, string skipping, that kind of thing. Each one is designed to actually be practiced properly, not just noodled through. Right now it's completely free to access at practice-lab.jonbjorkmusic.com A couple of things before you dive in: - Start by reading the "Read Me" in the top right corner of the starting page. It'll make everything make a lot more sense. - If you're on mobile, turn your phone sideways. You'll get a better view with more info showing during each exercise. Worth mentioning before you go check it out. In the next few weeks it's going to move behind a paywall. It'll be available as a standalone purchase or as part of Pro, which if you're already a Pro member means you already have it covered. So if you want to check it out for free, now's the time. And if you find something useful in there I'd genuinely love to hear what you think. It's still in beta mode and feedback from you guys is actually useful to me at this stage. Anyway. Go have a look if you're curious. 🎸

🎸 Share Your Technique Questions, Clips & Practice Wins
This is where we get to work. Use this space to: - Ask questions about your technique - Share short video clips of what you’re working on - Get feedback on your picking, fretting, timing, or phrasing - Talk about how you’re applying routines from lessons or your own practice 🎯 Want helpful feedback? Include: - What technique you're working on - What you're struggling with - Tempo (if relevant) - What you want feedback on (specific or general) Let’s keep the vibe focused and encouraging. We’re here to improve — one clean rep at a time.
If you want to sweep pick fast, start slow. Next intensive inside Pro.
The next 8-week intensive kicks off in a couple of weeks and we're doing sweep picking. You know how I teach this stuff. Slow reps, done properly, until the movement is actually under your control. Speed comes out of that. It doesn't come out of grinding through a messy pattern at 140bpm hoping it'll eventually clean itself up. I'm not going to tell you you'll hit some magic BPM by week 8. That depends on how you practice, not on the calendar. What I can tell you is that the two cohorts I've run so far all came out of it playing cleaner, with better control, and yeah, faster too. The speed was a side effect of the control, which is the only version that sticks. Heads up though, intensives are Pro-only now. Not sold separately anymore. If you want in, Pro is the way. It's $99/month, 7-day free trial. You get the intensive, every future intensive, the full course library, the weekly live Q&A where you can play for me and I'll tell you what's actually going wrong, post questions or videos any time for my feedback, and access to the Practice Lab app. One thing before we start. If you're joining the intensive, I highly recommend going through at least the first module of the Sweep Picking Deep Dive, plus the videos on finding your sweep motion. You'll get way more out of week one if you've already done the groundwork, instead of spending the first few days catching up on fundamentals. If sweep picking has been the thing you keep almost nailing and never quite owning, Pro is the room to be in for the next 8 weeks. The thing you keep avoiding.
We all have that one thing we keep skipping in the practice session. You know what it is. You get ready to practice and somehow you end up working on something else instead. What is it for you? Drop it below. No judgment, I'll probably recognize a few of these from my own avoidance list over the years.
