Hello!
Hi, I'm Lily! I'm in Michigan and I just graduated with my bachelors in Microbiology this month. This will be my second cycle of applications and I feel much more prepared this time around. I've worked mostly as a veterinary technician at a feline only hospital, but I also have experience in equine medicine and general small animal. Animal experience wise I volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation clinic, worked at a pet store, and I am an avid equestrian. Also, I have a job interview at a neurology hospital tomorrow! I would love to get more large animal experience, but unfortunately I don't live in a very rural area. Can't wait to meet everyone here.

Animal + Veterinary Experience Hours🐾
hey y'all! i recently joined this group and realized I've never posted anything so I thought now would be a good time to do so! soo...I've doing my animal experience hours by volunteering at a non-profit animal sanctuary (with large animals) and at a cat shelter which are both two different places at different cities. i started earlier this week so i have very little hours at these two locations but I was wondering if these two places are good for starters like me and if this two places would be enough or should I try to look for more diversity later on? for my veterinary experiences ones i've contacted a vet that came to the animal sanctuary on thursday since she saw I was interested in the career...I don't know if this would be a good start for my vet experience hours or if I should look for something else in the future... sorry if this seems confusing lol so please let me know if you need clarification...I know my grammar isn't the greatest which is why I am a stem major haha thank you very much, Kathya :)

@Nisana Miller perfect🙌 thank you for all the information :) I will definitely keep that in mind!! i enjoy working/volunteering at both places and so far it has been fun! i love the large animal one because it helps me learn more and I'm more exposed to different species of animals that i haven't worked with yet...and the cat place is fun because there's a lot of cute cats and I just love seeing the sparkle in their eyes when they get adopted 🐾🥺

Hi!!
Hi all! My name is Bella and I’m a 1st year Animal Science pre-vet track major at Cal Poly SLO. I’ve worked at a small animal veterinary hospital and boarding for the past couple years as a Kennel Assistant. I’m now hoping to get into mixed animal practice after being exposed to so many different animals my school has on campus. I’m working hard to keep grades as high as I can while also getting as much experience as possible for when I apply to vet school! On the side, I compete in track and field for shot put and hammer. I love the sport and getting to compete at the next level is always fun! I have also been heavily involved in community service since high school and continuing to help here too at a cat shelter and through the club Letters of Love as a fundraising coordinator. I have 3 Bearded Dragons (Derek, Dynamo, and Doug) and 1 Cavapoo (Milo) that are absolutely amazing and the best to have around. I’m so excited to be here, meet you all, and continue to learn so much!

Welcome, Bella! Your pets are so cute🥺 are you starting your freshman year or entering your sophomore year this august? I'm also an animal science (pre vet track) major and I feel like it's so cool to meet new people who are doing the exact same major as me!

Week’s Winner: Erin Sillery 🎉
This week’s gift goes to @Erin Sillery! Her intro immediately caught my attention😊 she spent years at an animal science camp in Missouri with a private zoo of 100+ species, aged out, and kept right on going as staff. That’s amazing and shows character Add a poultry program at U of M and an upcoming internship at Hybrid Turkeys, and this girl is already living the vet med life before she even starts her application cycle. 🐓 Erin, DM me and let me know which you’d like: 🩺 A personal review of your vet school personal statement 🎁 An animal/vet med gift Also… something’s coming tomorrow. 👀 I’m announcing a fun community competition with prizes and I’m keeping the details under wraps until then. 🤫 Check back tomorrow to get in on it early. You’ll want to be first to see this one. 😊 Keep those intros coming, this week’s gift is still up for grabs!

🎉 NEW TOOL DROP: Vet School Fit Matcher is LIVE
If you've ever stared at a list of 60+ vet schools wondering "which ones am I actually competitive for right now?" — this one's for you. We just launched the Vet School Fit Matcher, a free tool built exclusively for this community that analyzes your profile against every major AVMA-accredited vet school and tells you exactly where you stand. Here's what it does 👇 You enter: ✏️ Your GPA 🕐 Your vet experience hours 📍 Your state of residency 📬 How many LORs you have (and what kind) 📚 Every prereq course you've completed And it instantly sorts every school into one of four buckets: ✅ Meets All Requirements — you're in the competitive pool 📚 Would Qualify — Need Courses — here's exactly what's missing ⚠️ Borderline GPA — here's exactly how far the gap is 📋 Requirements Not Yet Met — here's exactly what you still need No more guessing. No more Googling 12 different school websites. Just answers. What makes this different 💡 👉 61 schools — US, Caribbean, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, and more 👉 School-specific prereq logic — it knows that Oregon State waives gen-ed if you have a bachelor's, that UGA requires 8 credits of upper-division biology, that Penn Vet prereqs are matriculation requirements only, and hundreds of other nuances 👉 LOR and hours tracking — if you're short on letters or experience hours, the school still shows up with specifics on what you need rather than disappearing 👉 International toggle — US students can opt in to see international schools when they're ready 👉 Grade tracking — enter your grades and get flagged if a course doesn't meet a school's minimum grade requirement ⚠️ One important note This tool is for guidance and planning — not a replacement for doing your own research. Requirements change, and you should always verify directly with each school before applying. That said, we update the data annually to keep it as current as possible. Ready to use it? Check it out in the classroom under the Picking Your Vet School Workshop! Built with love for the Pre-Vet Skool community.

@Nisana Miller thank you!! I just checked, apparently I am a good fit for some but in some schools I still need more courses, letters of recommendation and more animal and veterinary experience :)
