Fav Band You Can't See live
What's a favorite band that you weren't able to see live? There has to be some rules on this one, so here we go: - You must have been able to see them at some point, but didn't, for whatever reason - There's no likely way for you to see them live in the future, for whatever reason For me, there was a chance I could have seen Concrete Blonde play in New Mexico, but I only found out about the concert the day before, and there was no way I would have been able to make it up to the show never mind getting tickets. Also for me, there's bands I thought I'd never see which I've now seen four or five times, and bands that felt like they were right there which I never caught.

I had tickets to see David Sylvian in Milan, IT in 2012 which was cancelled due to injury. I don’t think he has played or will play any live shows since then.

@Erin Moore yikes!
Album for Specific Mood?
Is there an album you only really listen to when you’re in a very, very specific mood? Like, any other time feels like the wrong time if you’re not in that mood? Kind of like an anchor? For me, Radiohead’s The Bends is the album, and it surprises me because I’m a casual Radiohead fan, but that album was there for me and is still is. Anyone else with that kind of surprise affection?

I thought a loved one always played Yo La Tango “I can Hear the Heart Beating as One” in the fall and that there was a mood/memory attached to it for them. They insisted that there was no connection. I realized recently that I created an association to the album and the start of autumn over the years. Now it feels comforting and nostalgic enough that I listen to it at the start of autumn:)

The other band I thought of with this question was Godspeed you! Black Emperor - I love this band but listened to it a lot around when my sister died and it even now almost 20 years later pulls at the raw spots - I have to be ready to allow that feeling of loss and rawness to listen to them. Their (infrequent) live shows feel different but still complicated and tied to loss.
Music influences
Anybody have the typical older sibling music influence as a teenager? Is it something you’ve stuck pretty close to, some of which you still count as all time favorites or did your musical journey take you on your own somewhat different or completely different path? My older sister definitely had a big influence on what I listened to as a teenager. Typical 70s teen I remember it was bands like Bad Company, Montrose, Foghat. That was it until the first time I watched MTV in the 80s then everything changed.

My Aunt was 9 years older than me and introduced me to her favorite band Journey in the late 80’s. I was a preteen (12). My older sister, was 3 years older and influenced my early years listening to the heavy metal/hard rock/hair bands including Guns and Roses, Cinderella, Def Leopard, Motley Crue, Metallica also in late 80s-early 90s (12-14yo) My first boyfriend around age 15 introduced me to KISS who I then introduced my 5 year old sister to 🤣. My tastes changed and evolved over time and I really only listen to the above bands when feeling nostalgic.

First Show
I've considered doing a Morning Show about this but I only have 3 hours. It would take me 3 months. So mine was 16 years old, Jane's Addiction with Mary's Danish opening at Eastern Washington University. I remember walking in to "Coming Down the Mountain" and seeing bodies flying in the air, everyone wearing black, just absolute MAYHEM and all I wanted to do was more of this! I stayed out the pit that day and just stood there in awe to be seeing and hearing the music from a band I loved. I was HOOKED. I think they played 30 minutes because Perry was a mess but I didn't know any better and in fact was shocked when I saw a band play longer! Also first show in Seattle? Pixies. Moore Theater.

The first show seeing some with international recognition was Radiohead at the MacEwen Hall ballroom at the university of Calgary in 1996. Didn’t remember who they were with but my google search says David Grey Lots of local and smaller bands before that. Saw NOFX a few times.

My first show in Seattle was seeing Sonic Youth at Bumbershoot in ‘97. Drove from Calgary, watched Sonic Youth, decided the crowds were too big, felt claustrophobic, then left and drove to Olympia.
