Keys to tri success over 55?
It was awesome to see quite a few ‘elderly’ athletes achieve Kona tickets at Taupo on the weekend. I’d be interested to hear what are the key strategies they use to manage older bodies such that they can achieve these awesome results.

The skills and experience convos are great. For example the chat about ocean swimming Technique last night was great. Similarly convos about mindset and race experience are really helpful too.
WELCOME
Welcome to Greggo's Tri Chat! 🚀🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Hi everyone, and a huge welcome to the group! I'm Greg McDermott, your coach with Koa Sports, and I'm thrilled you've joined us here on Skool. This community is all about connecting our athletes—whether you're a beginner building your first tri, chasing age-group podiums, qualifying for Worlds, or simply loving the swim-bike-run lifestyle. It's a space to share training wins (and those tough sessions), ask questions, get feedback, discuss races, and support each other on the journey to better performance. A few quick things to get started: - INTRODUCE YOURSELF in the comments below or in the "New Members" thread—tell us your name, where you're based, your main goals for 2026, and what you're most excited (or nervous) about right now. Let's get to know each other! - Jump into discussions, post your training logs, race reports, or questions—your input drives this place! - I am piloting this as part of your coaching subscription over the next few months, so please share your feedback, ideas, and what you'd love to see here. We're building this together as a supportive tribe, and I can't wait to see the energy, breakthroughs, and friendships that come from it. You've got big goals ahead—let's smash them as a team. Drop a quick intro or wave hello below. Looking forward to chatting! Greggo Again, WELCOME to the team

Hi. I’m Jonathan, based in Perth. Just sign on today to Greg’s training program. Im 56 and looking to tick off a dream I had around 10yrs of doing a half Ironman. Last year my wife and I both were diagnosed with cancer. Luckily we were both reasonably healthy and have both come out scarred but feeling very fortunate to have amazing friends and family who helped us through. Most importantly it reminded me that I can no longer put work ahead of health and so I’m looking forward to getting back into triathlon training, building strength, setting some challenges and getting a few races under my belt. Not sure yet which 70.3 I’ll sign on to yet. Gonna start with the T50 in Busselton in May. Hopefully by then I’ll have locked in a 70.3 somewhere. Look forward to getting to know you. Cheers J.
