📬 Drop Your Substack Below! I'm curious... who here is publishing on Substack? 👀 Share your Substack URL in the comments and tell us a little about what you write, create, teach, or talk about. If you're already on Substack, this is a great chance to discover other creators, make connections, and find new publications to follow. And if you've heard of Substack but haven't really explored it yet... A lot of people think it's "just a newsletter." I thought that at first too. 😄 But it's actually a publishing platform, podcast host, community builder, blogging platform, email marketing tool, and audience growth engine all rolled into one. You can write articles. 🎙️ Host a podcast. 💬 Connect through Notes. 📧 Build an email list. 🤝 Create community. 💰 Even monetize your content. No website required. (or money) So whether you're already publishing, just getting started, or simply wondering what all the fuss is about... 👇 Drop your Substack link below (or tell us what questions you have about Substack). Let's discover some amazing creators together!

@Faith Adebayo nope it's totally different - there is a content creation side (think website with a list building mechanism) and a social side for discovery. It's not more it's using it as the hub to syndicate from - so many tools that come with. And it's not about doing more it's about making the best use of what you are or have created.
I tried Skool before
... and now I'm trying it again. In the past, I gave it a month at most, because nobody was joining. Even my friends and family. I figured I was (am) just weird, so my interests didn't jibe with anybody else's. Well, now Im in that same situation again, with my new group, AI Health Plus. This time, I'm sticking with it because I genuinely think I have something of value to offer. It's a group of three apps at this point -- a medical, a legal, and a language translation app. They all use AI, but they don't require any AI knowledge or experience. They are apps with built-in prompts and safeguards, and they can explain anything in those fields. There are sample buttons to click so you can try them out with info that is "real," but isn't from a "real person's info." (Note: The apps are private and safe; nothing is kept and nothing is used for training AI LLMS.) If you'd like to try them out for free (through the end of May, using the password "aihealthmay26," just go to either one or all of them: MedeXplainr Pro, LegalXplainr Pro, or LanguageXplainr Pro. Try it out. LanguageXplainer Pro translates both ways between English, Mexican Spanish, French and German. All the apps have three levels of detail for the explanation, a summarize button, and save, share and print. If you look and have trouble, and you feel it's not easy to use, PLEASE tell me so I can fix it! Thanks! Bill

@Lynn Smargis what a generous thing to do
👀 Community Owners...
If someone joined your community today, what would they experience in their first 10 minutes? Not what you hope they'd experience. Not what you intended when you built it. What would they actually experience as a brand new member trying to figure out where they fit, where to start, and what to do next? Sometimes we get so close to our own communities that we stop seeing them the way new members do. We know where everything is. We know which course to start with. We know what all the labels, categories, and inside jokes mean. New members don't. And often the thing holding a community back isn't a lack of strategy. It's the gap between what the owner thinks members are experiencing and what members are actually experiencing. That's why I created the Community Review. I'll walk through your community with fresh eyes and send back a short video sharing what stood out, where I noticed friction, what patterns I observed, and the next three steps I'd focus on first. No giant report. No overwhelming list of twenty-seven things to fix. Just a fresh perspective from someone who isn't standing inside the jar trying to read the label. I've got room for 4 community reviews this weekend. Sometimes the most valuable insight isn't another strategy... it's seeing what you've stopped seeing. Click To See Your Community Through Fresh Eyes 👇 Curious... If you could have a fresh set of eyes on one area of your community, what would it be?

An interesting question - we have a daily notes boost thread (it's a substack thing) and everyone gets a personal message to figure out where they are in the process - and then follow up messages and everyday there is something to do to further their experience getting started with and profitting on Substack
What's actually happening when a member says "I thought this was free"
A member I worked with recently introduced a paid tier to their Skool community and got a backlash they didn't see coming. Members went cold, a few complained, and one or two left. They wanted to know what had gone wrong. To be honest, nothing went wrong with the decision to charge. Everything had gone wrong with the setup that came before it. I've seen this repeat across pretty much every community I've been part of or worked with. When someone joins a free community, they don't just join a group. They accept a deal. Nobody writes it down, but both sides feel it. The owner says, "Come in, everything here is yours." The member says, "Great, I'll give you my time and attention." The problem is that it only ever existed in their heads, and the longer it ran, the more solid it felt. Think of it like a coffee shop that lets you sit and work for free every day for six months. Then one morning, there's a sign: tables are $5 an hour. Technically, they never promised you anything. But it doesn't feel that way. It feels like the rules changed mid-game. That's loss aversion. You see, people feel the removal of something they had far more sharply than the gain of something new. Your members weren't reacting to your price. They were reacting to the sudden appearance of a wall where there used to be a door. The fix isn't better communication at the point of charging. It starts before a single member joins. Put a line on your about page, something like "this community is free to join, and a premium tier is coming for those who want to go deeper." Mention it occasionally in posts as a natural part of how you talk about where the community is heading. When the paid tier launches, it won't feel like an announcement. It'll feel like the next step people already knew was coming. What you're doing is managing expectations before they harden into assumptions, because once someone has assumed something long enough, it feels like a promise you made them. If you're working out how to structure that without losing the members you've spent months building trust with, that's exactly what we focus on inside the Skool Monetization Lab.
