Senior Power Platform Developer needed in Texas
Hello! There's a full-time opening on my team at Children's Health in Dallas. The role is virtual, but we're only able to hire people inside the state of Texas. Not sure why - ask the HR people. Also, much as I wish we could, we don't support H1B visas. Work will be focused on Power Apps/Power Automate/Power Pages. We're trying to wrangle out citizen developer environment, so COE type experience would be a definite plus. I've been at Children's for 5+ years and love love love the company. It's consistently ranked one of the best places to work in Dallas for good reason. Solid benefits, work life balance that's not just marketing. Personal aside: Working in nonprofit children’s healthcare is really rewarding. When I have a rough day, I can walk through one of our hospitals and watch the way our nurses care for these kids. It sounds cliche, but it reminds me why I do what I do. I’m still solving problems, but it feels like I’m doing something good in the world. When I do my job right, nurses spend less time being frustrated with administrivia and spend more time caring for kids. Email me at jerry.stevenson@childrens.com if you're interested.
Suggestions for SharePoint delegation issues?
Looking for feedback on a Power App that will connect to a SharePoint list that could grow above 10,000 records. I found out the hard way that a ClearCollect combined with DropColumns was a no-go for a big list in SharePoint. The hard way, naturally, once it was already in production. "Why was this working and now it's not??!!" (sigh). 🤦🏻‍♂️ I changed the code from this: ClearCollect( colMyLinks, Sort( Filter( DropColumns('My Quick Links', "{VersionNumber}", "Modified"), 'Created By'.Email=gblUserProfile.mail), SOrder ) ) To this: ClearCollect( colMyLinks, Sort( Filter('My Quick Links', 'Created By'.Email=gblUserProfile.mail), SOrder ) ); ClearCollect( colMyLinks, DropColumns(colMyLinks, "{VersionNumber}", "Modified" ) ) I know, I know - converting to dataverse would likely make for a better solution. But will I hit any issues with the new approach? It seems to be working. The collection getting pulled in is only about 10-20 rows from the SharePoint list, so the app itself doesn't need to work with very much data. I figured the collection approach would be efficient. But obviously it comes with issues of it's own.

Thanks for the recommendations! @Scott Hoyt , the above statement is in my OnStart. Basically the app gets the user's list of links, stores it in that collection and doesn't do any database calls except for pushing back the changes at the end. The one exception is deletes, which I do as a direct RemoveIf's both to SharePoint and the collection. But I'm thinking of making deletes a collection of it's own so that the only two interactions occur - getting the initial list and sending back changes/deletes when the user clicks save and is finished.
PowerApps Challenges😲
What are the most challenging aspects of creating apps in PowerApps? Does it help if you plan effectively??

One huge thing: wireframe the heck out of it with whoever you're building it for before you start building in Power Apps. Just mock things up in PPT (XD is great too, but there's a learning curve) and talking through the flow of what will happen screen to screen makes a big difference in how much rework you'll do later.
Convert to Responsive
Hi All, I'm sure we've all created apps that are not responsive or we have teammates that constantly do it. In this video we convert a non-responsive phone app to a responsive design so it fits on any device. Come check it out!

I'm sure it all comes down to the app and what you're trying to do, but it always seems like when I try to create a responsive app, my desktop users complain it doesn't make effective use of the amount of space available. Changing that, of course, makes mobile users complain things are too crowded or they have to scroll too much to get to the controls they need. 🙄
Introduce Yourself to the Rest of the Group!
I'd love to hear more about each of you, what your goals are, and what you're currently working on with Power Apps! ...if you have a cool workstation set up, share it! I'll go first...

I'm Microsoft 365 solution architect (mostly Power Automate/PowerApps/SharePoint/Forms) for Children's Health, a large non-profit health system in North Texas. I've been working with Power Apps for about 18 months. My second project was a trial-by-fire system supporting our nurses that involved 2 PowerApps with 120 screens, 18 connected MS Forms, 35 workflows and 21 SP lists. 😄 None of it was particularly advanced work, there was just a LOT of it. I went from hating to mostly loving (depending on when you ask me) Power Apps.
