One of my favorite quotes of all time is by Maya Angelou: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This one always hits me right in the heart. It reminds me that our impact isn’t measured by perfect words or grand gestures. it’s felt in the energy we bring, the safety we create, and the presence we offer. @Jenny Landis The last 4 years have changed my life in more ways than one and one of the most significant changes is that my people pleaser mask is gone. For most of my life, I suppressed parts of myself that I thought could potentially inconvenience or annoy people. I shrunk down the parts of myself that were "too much" and it caused me physical harm and made it so I didn't completely fit in anywhere. I do have a few amazing friends who have made me feel at home as myself, but I was always hanging out on the outskirts of every group I was ever in. I was allowed to be in the group, but I never truly belonged. My masks don't fit anymore so I'm getting comfortable and enjoying being myself without worrying about fitting in. I don't need to change myself to fit in, I just need to find my people. My husband and kids have played a huge role in me accepting myself. They are amazing humans and if they love the real me, I must not be so bad. The older I get, the more I appreciate myself, flaws and all and I'm looking forward to becoming more and more of who I am deep inside.

@Jenny Landis You're such a sweet person with a beautiful heart! Being a black sheep to strangers or people who are jerks isn't so bad, but to be a black sheep to people who you care about or who are supposed to care about you if heartbreaking. I'm sorry you've felt like this in life 🫂. I've felt invisible most of the life so I really appreciate you seeing me 😊.

@Jenny Landis No worries at all! I think it hits particularly hard with people who have experienced parental neglect (whether intentional or unintentional). The first time I heard this song I experienced heartbreaking grief, but then when I listened to it with my cuddling sleepy babies, I felt grateful to be a safe space for my kids. Music is magical like that.

@Jenny Landis Yes! That's sounds like a super fun game 😊. Every once in a while my husband and I will go down a music rabbithole from the past. It's good to bring back some of those positive memories and it's like a hug for our inner children.

Sad. Happy. Inspired. Then I asked myself what is it that this painting trying to share with me. What comes out of this painting for you? I’m curious. I find myself more and more drawn to humanitarian work. Perhaps it is where I know I can advocate and share healing arts with the community and the world.
