BULK INSERT and OPENROWSET added to Fabric Data Warehouse (preview)
Yesterday, Microsoft introduced two new functions to the Fabric Data Warehouse, you can read more about them in their blog posts here: OPENROWSET ( Press Release || Documentation ) OPENROWSET allows you to preview the data inside a CSV or Parquet in ADLS GEn2 or Azure Blob. Can also be used with INSERT INTO to pre-filter/ transform data from a CSV/Parquet into a Warehouse table. BULK INSERT ( Press Release || Documentation ) BULK INSERT is very similar to COPY INTO, but provides a few extra configuration options: - CODEPAGE: This option allows you to load textual files encoded using national encoding. - DATAFILETYPE: This option enables you to read single- or double-byte file formats or native formats produced by SQL Server on-premises. - FORMATFILE: This option allows you to define column and type mappings in a separate textual or XML format file. How are you going to be using OPENROWSET and BULK INSERT?

Fabric Feature Request: thoughts?
Wouldn't it be nice if it was easy to create items with a Service Principal owner? Would promote good practices! What are your thoughts?

I recently had to jump through hoops of fire in order to use dbt in fabric due to this restriction. Fabric often feels like it was launched 2 years to soon.
Feedback on the getting started experience for new Fabric developers
Hey everyone, I know many of you are currently struggling to get started with Fabric. You can provide Microsoft with some valuable feedback to share your experiences about getting started with Fabric, and the free trial experience: Feedback form for new Fabric developers: https://aka.ms/FabricGettingStartedFeedbackDoc?wt.mc_id=onboardingresearch_includes_content_cnl_learncomm Hopefully we can make it a better experience for all.

Fabric Free Trial (update from Microsoft)
Hey everyone, for those of you who are asking about the Fabric Free Trial (see this previous thread), I just received the following update from Microsoft: "To answer your questions, we have stopped supporting Fabric trial capacities on newly created Entra and M365 tenants, which many users previously set up for testing and learning. Unfortunately, the ease of creating these tenants for trial capacities led to usage patterns that we cannot continue to support, so we are unable to provide trials for this class of tenant. We recommend initiating Fabric trial capacities on tenants associated with your work or school organizationโ€”rather than spinning up new tenants. Trial capacities remain available on established tenants that demonstrate multi-product usage of Microsoft services." So I believe the methods you can take now are either: 1) If you work for a company that uses Fabric - use your company's tenant 2) If not, or you don't want to use your company tenant, purchase an F2 (or higher) for practicing/learning, and pause/ resume as and when you need it. For reference, an F2 is ~ $0.35 per hour. Thoughts?

@Will Needham This would be a great tutorial and falls line with Fabric Admin.
Problems starting a new Fabric Free Trial (an update)
I am hearing a few of you have had problems recently starting new Fabric Free Trials, following the method to create an Azure account, and use that to create your Fabric free trial. This approach used to work well, until roughly a week ago. My understanding is that Microsoft have made some changes, so that now you cannot create a fabric free trial from accounts less than 90 days old - effectively putting a stop to gaining access to Fabric in this way. I'm currently in talks with Microsoft about this - specifically the PM who looks after the Trial/ Onboarding experience - so when I have some advice/ a way forward, I will of course share that with you all!

@Didier Maignan I have the MFA setup and can authenticate with microsoft authenticator. But I have no way of starting the fabric trial. I keep getting a message that fabric trial is not available at this time. My previous account is lost as their is no way to get MFA on it, as it requires authentication to get into azure itself. Stuck in circular logic hell. Seems fabric trial is a bust for now.

@Didier Maignan No sir...just stuck in a loop with no way out. It's too bad...all of my progress here is lost. I hope Microsoft begins offering the trials soon.
