Day 2
This reflection really had me back at 5 years old. When my mom passed away I looked through the things she kept for me and that included every report card I ever received starting in kindergarten. The comments I received in my first semester were as follows: “Jamie is a good student. Retention is satisfactory. Is now able to read words. She is gradually overcoming her sensitiveness. Jamie has made many friends and is well liked by her peers.” In the second term I was offered the opportunity to advance a grade and I declined because all of my friends would be on a separate playground at recess. My teacher’s comments are evidence of the beginning of the masking. If I wanted to keep what was important to me I had to reject what others wanted for me. So I wanted to continue to be seen as smart I had to turn down the sensitivity which today we call empathy and turn up the compliance (though if you look my mother notes my push back on that…still true to this day, you will not get my participation if I don’t feel like it). Enter my perfectionist workaholic. I enjoyed rediscovering who I was as a child. She is absolutely still here under all the masks.

@Rochelle Harris I am grateful my mother kept them. It’s been helpful to look back on things as validation but also with surprise at finding evidence of the difficult times.

@Deb Brouwer yes this “sensitivity” pattern is there throughout my childhood. I have learned to embrace that as being empathic but so much shame was attached to it growing up and even into adulthood.
Day 1 Win
IMMEDIATELY zeroed in on the question tool and how profound it is. The analysis was so spot on and I already felt smarter about myself.
Better Late Than Never Introduction
Aloha, my name is Jamie, I’m originally from Honolulu, Hawaii but live just outside of Seattle, Washington in the U.S.. I have not been diagnosed with ADHD so I refer to myself as multipassionate knowing full well that I am likely undiagnosed. You might be able to tell that by the fact that I'm simultaneously Vice President of a small consulting firm I do not own, CEO of a new consulting firm that I DO own, am a professor of graduate students at Columbia University, and have about 4 business ideas in test at the moment. I am the wife of an active duty Navy submariner who I've been with for 16+ years and we have 3 children. I spent most of my career in knowledge management and IT so I have two masters of science degrees but learned that people are really the heart of all successes and challenges. Because of that I decided to pursue and earned a doctorate in Social Work which is really the study of translational, teams, and transdisciplinary sciences. have experience working in every sector from non-profit to corporate to government. You can ask me questions about: - Moving A LOT and surviving many pivots - Hawai'i (I love to talk about my home) - LEGO Serious Play method I want to get these things from ADHD Harmony: 1. Understanding of the identity piece that helps with staying in action 2. Hearing others' stories 3. Better understanding of myself For fun, I like to: 1. Work with AI tools 2. Spend time with my family 3. Travel Share a picture(s) of something meaningful to you or your workspace (: Here are some pictures of my office and creative studio space as well as a photo of a LEGO Serious Play session where a client is describing her vision for the year ahead.

@Jim Ebbelaar Thank you for the welcome and for making this learning space. Excited to dive in over the next two days. I love the people of Hawai’i the most. It is beautiful of course but it’s the people and the coming together of many cultures that make it unique and joyful.

@Anna C Hi Anna! Thanks for connecting! Yes i teach mostly online but my class has an in person residency at the end (it’s the capstone and students give presentations to their client and classmates at the end of the semester in NY). Those are some pretty crazy overlaps! The office space has been for me work wise what a hotel room is like for my well being on vacation. It is tidy and I love the what Jim said in Day 1 about our external reality reflecting our internal. A clean office helps me stay motivated and organized in my business. It is a retreat in every way for my brain and my soul.
