Overcoming Burn Out
We love what we do. We do everything to maintain a balanced life. We devote time to our family. We make efforts to maintain our health. We manage our finances well. We have done our programs day after day faithfully and conducted hours of research to add mew material. Yet, there comes those moment we feel like there needs to be something else, something more, so level of change. What do you do go manage burn out?

@Bruce Stanley In many cases we find ourselves caught in a rat race doing the same thing over and over and over every day, day in and day out. No real variety in our work. Even if we do change up how we facilitate a group things tend to remain the same. Then there comes a desire to some change, for something new or different.

@Bruce Stanley I'm not a counselor or a therapist. I'm defining burn out from the perspective of a facilitator, not the client.
Foster Learning without Lectures
Retention is important for us. However, studies show that retention measured three days following a lecture is only 10%. So what are some ways do you build interactivity in your training?

What is the difference between a facilitator and a trainer
As I do research on the topic of facilitating and consider what I do I have had to ask myself this question, "What is the difference between a facilitator and a trainer." What am I doing that is any different from what I did as a NCO in the Army or as a minister. My job title is facilitator yet I am not called in by any company or organization to sit with a board of people to work through an issue or a project to help find a solution to what they are dealing with. I enter rehab centers and correction facilities to conduct classes that help our clients change their life.

Unexpected Ground Rules. Whats yours?
When it comes to setting ground rules for a workshop, nobody wants to come across as a buzzkill. It's challenging to establish expectations without dampening the mood or stifling creativity. What are your ground rules that are as exciting as the topic or workshop itself? As an example, in a remote setting, it's hard to get people to stay focused on the workshop. To help with this, I like to exaggerate the idea of "Be here now" and make a joke about a specific tab that needs to be closed. Or in a soft and smooth voice, I encourage everyone to fully immerse themselves in the present moment which is a fun contrast to my usual fast pace high-energy style. Any creative techniques or examples from you?

Another point I would like to add to Shannon's "Vegas Rules" is what is said here stays here. This rule falls more in line with HIPA but the rules allows people to feel more comfortable to share what they feel and think without repercussions.

Hello David. I teach classes on relationship building and parenting focus. Finding someone to shadow is a smart idea. This will allow you to observe various family types and to glean from someone who is familiar and experienced in working with families enables you to develop questions to ask later whether that be before or after a class.
