My dearest WPA friends, I am in need of some moral support as I prepare to go to this Anusara Yoga Conference in San Francisco next week. I have been offered 2 non-prime-time teaching slots at 7:00am. I live in NYC; that means I have to get up at 4:00am Eastern Standard Time to teach a class that is not being livestreamed or featured. They are meditation classes. I have been invited to teach one asana class with 3 other teachers at the end of the conference. This sounds so petty to me, but my ego is taking a bit of a beating here. My background is I was one of the teachers that helped to save Anusara after our teacher, John Friend, left. This is the first conference since 2012 that I have been given non-prime time slots. It is a huge amount of time off and sacrifice for so little exposure. I agreed to these terms, but part of me wishes I had just said no and shown up as a student. Some of the "star teachers" have been given 2 or 3 prime-time classes. How can I frame this as a win and not a demotion in my position in the community? These star teachers will bring people in. I have no following on the West Coast. It makes sense, but I want to go with a full heart and not this feeling of lack. I am not actually missing. I am bringing more people into my club from my cleanse. Today's sale happened as I did the follow-up call after the cleanse with a former member of my Vibrant Living Tribe. I gave her the first month of the VLT as a bonus for taking the cleanse. She signed up for the free month. I hope to move her into the year-long program. I offered her 50% discount on the tuition. So we have another temporary member of the tribe. April 28-May 3 I will be in San Francisco at the Anusara Yoga Kula gathering. I am teaching 3 practice sessions during the conference. I am there to refresh my own practice and teaching skills and recharge my batteries. It suddenly feels like sales sessions are not as scary as they used to be. Sometimes I feel a bit defeated and often I feel highly frustrated because my business is not where I want it yet. There have been huge gains in my growth and foundation and belief system, and it goes back to gap or gain perspective. That frustration keeps me moving, but reminders like this also help move out of the feelings of defeat that sometimes arise. And then I realize.... I HAVE had LOTS of gains. Gave a free talk on the Microbiome and have made at least 3 apts for strategy sessions. It is my birthday and the talk went really well. I started with their what and their Why. Reallly focused on their pain points. Got them to book a session. I have their text or emails to get them to book a session if they dont do it themselves. Closed a sale for the year long program! Second call . Sitting with the pain last week. She experienced a crisis in her family . Her mom who is 94 needs kidney surgery! Amazing timing.
