Alliant CU / Error / Account setup
Hello! I applied for a checking account with Alliant Credit Union and received my membership number from the hotline. However, I’m now getting an error message when trying to set up my online banking account. The hotline wasn’t able to help me either. Has anyone experienced this before? How did you resolve it?

@Vinicius C for months? Did you apply at another CU? servicecu.org could be an option.

4 Months In — What Would You Do Next?
Hey everyone 👋 Quick update on my journey so far — and I’d love your input on what to do next. After holding my German Amex for ~3 months and waiting for my ITIN, I went ahead with the Amex Global Transfer. Here’s where I’m at now: Current setup: - Amex Hilton Surpass — $15k limit - Amex Green - Capital One Quicksilver Secured (on the way) - Charles Schwab Brokerage Account - DCU Checking (applied) Credit history: ~4 months I feel like I’ve built a solid foundation, but now I’m thinking about how to move strategically from here — especially optimizing for: - Welcome bonuses - Stronger credit profile - Future approvals (Chase, Citi, BoA, etc.) Questions for the group: 1. When would you go for the next unsecured card? 2. Would you prioritize another Amex (e.g. Gold/Platinum) or diversify (Chase/Citi)? 3. Any tips to graduate the secured card faster or boost limits early? 4. Is it too early to think about Chase (considering thin file + no SSN)? Appreciate any advice or personal experiences 🙌

@Alan Breto thanks for this, I‘ll try after a few months

Anyone looking for a US checking / savings account should check out Alliant, the process was pretty straightforward. I was drawn to Alliant specifically because they allowed W-8BENs at initial account opening, and you don't need to have a US address. They are explicitly NRA-friendly, so no in-person visits required either. The only catch is that you need to fill out a "paper" application instead of going through the online process. Here's the link to the form, which you can fax, mail, or send via the chat. I did it via the chat, I just said I wanted to submit a paper application and if they could please forward it to the back office. Documents I submitted: - Signed form (signed in wet ink and scanned) - Passport - ITIN letter - W-8BEN - Utility bill evidencing my street address as stated in the form Timeline: - 17 April – submitted documents via chat - 26 April – received email stating my debit card was shipped on 23 April - 27 April – called them to ask for my member number so I could setup online banking; details sent via secure email (account opening date was stated as 22 April) So overall it was a quick and hassle free process, I'll update this post when I receive my debit card!

@Isabel G That’s great! Did you fill in your residency adress outside US?
DCU Application Approved
It took me almost a week for this approval. It is one of the easiest Credit Union with approval time of as low as 3 hours but I got messed up with their application form ( date field ). Anyway it got approved after following them for 2 days. Documents required: - ITIN - Address proof - ID Verification You can opt-out debit card too as its not required. Tomorrow I will post about other Credit Union which got approved ( it is not easy for new ITIN but I managed to do it )

@Apple Service ok, thanks! I‘ll let you know. I took it because I want to have a real checking Account (only have schwab brokerage) and no trips to US planned 26/27.

@Apple Service got an update from DCU. They requested the following: Social Security Card ITIN Letter 1040 Tax Return Social Security Annual Statement -> I only have an ITIN Letter. How did you fix this?
Chase Sapphire Reserve Business approved with ITIN only
I applied for the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business last week as a sole proprietor using only my ITIN. No EIN, no LLC, and no current relationship with Chase. When I applied, it went to 7 to 10 business days review. On Monday I called back, and yesterday I called again and was told to wait for a letter. I asked if there was any way to upload requested documents online instead, and later Chase sent me the request by email. Today I uploaded my passport, proof of address, and copy of ITIN right away. After that I called again, and it was approved instantly on the call for USD 10,000. @Ain - Cloud Resident assisted me throughout the process, which made it easier to keep moving when Chase kept saying to wait for letter. For background, I was also approved for Apple Card last month with a USD 3,000 limit, so this was a really good next step for me. If anyone is in review with Chase and gets told to wait for a letter, it may be worth asking if they can send the document upload request by email instead.
