5k members, 1200 threads and now a 2nd team member
Hi everyone, things have gone fast since I launched this community back in January 2024!! I still remember my proud post when we reached 50 members (see below). Well, recently we crossed a previously unimaginable milestone of 5k members. Thank you to every one of you that chooses to spend your time here learning Fabric and engaging with the community. So far, we have had over 1200 conversations/ threads about Microsoft Fabric (the search bar contains a wealth of information!). I hope it has helped you learn Microsoft Fabric. The best thing is that this is just the start, I will continue to invest in this community because I can see it's making (at least a small) difference. But a community of this size is difficult to manage alone (especially as now I spend a lot of time in Fabric Dojo too). As such, I'm delighted to announce that I've brought on board Maleek - @Mubaraq Abdulmaleek to support yourselves (and me!) around the community. Maleek is hugely passionate about Fabric (he was one of the first members of this community back in January!), DP-600 certified and eager to learn as much as possible. He'll help new members get onboarded, help members find stuff (course content/ previous answers to community questions), and generally help make sure you have a great experience here. Great to have you here, Maleek! Soon, I'll share what I have planned for this community in 2025 and beyond. Thank you so much for being a part of this community we're building!

Nice one! Congratulations!
The summer lull
After quite a busy period with lots of new releases at MS Build, I think the summer period will be a lot quieter for new releases from the Fabric product team (because of holidays!). It's a pretty good opportunity to: - take a break! - catch up on the features you think are important, but didn't have a chance to explore yet - learn something new What are your plans for the summer period? Anything you want to learn in particular?

The countdown to ending Fabric Trials ๐Ÿ˜ฑ โฐ Are you prepared?
My 60-day free trial is coming to an end... after 383 days (thanks Microsoft) ๐Ÿ˜‚ Yours probably is too. The question is, are you prepared? What are your options? 1. You can purchase a F-SKU capacity from the Azure Portal, and reassign your existing workspaces to that new capacity. Or, 2. If you're still not ready to buy an F-SKU yet, the documentation states you can create a new trial capacity with a new user, and reassign your workspaces to that new trial capacity. 3. Any others? Let me know! Important things to note: - If you don't upgrade to a paid Fabric capacity before the end of the trial period, non-Power BI Fabric items are removed according to the retention policy upon removal (I believe this is 7 days soft delete, but double check, and also don't let it get to this!)

We just recently started using the Fabric trial and 60 days is just a very short period to try out a completely new tool while the normal work also has to continue. We have contacted Microsoft to ask for an extension of the trial time.

@Brian Szeto This morning it was only 6 but now mine has been extended to 29 days as well! Any ideas why this happened?
Performance PySpark vs Scala
Hi all, I'm new to Python as well as Scala. As I understand it some things in Fabric can better, or even only be done using notebooks. Recently I read somewhere that Scala works better with Spark than Python (I don't remember where ๐Ÿค”). Is that also true in Fabric? I'm asking this because I probably have to learn one of these languages so I want to know in which of these to put my effort. I hope I'm not asking something stupid or obvious. Thanks in advance.

Hi Vinayak, I figured Python is more widely used so that would be the most logical choice. Thanks!

I'm a BI specialist for little under 30 years. I have worked with Cognos Impromptu and PowerPlay and with SSIS and SSAS. Now I'm looking at MS-Fabric.
