From doodles to digital drawing to self publishing 😅!
I was always the one drawing ✍️, from early childhood to this day, at home , in class, getting in trouble for drawing in my notebooks and on my desk 😅! I drew for my home, my friends and family’s gifts, at work, decorated spaces, created crafts… But never allowed myself to believe I was a “real artist “ 👩‍🎨 and I could make money off it. Then last year, I thought “what do I have to lose?!” Apart from money, time and efforts 😆?! So I taught myself digital illustration (thank you YouTube!) and self publishing (thank you KDP but I wish I knew Skool and this group!) and now I have 4 books on Amazon, I sold 113! Two of them are about my other passion: sharing my language and culture 🇫🇷😀! I am so excited to be here and learn more!!

@Johanna Vaudran Your journey is honestly so inspiring, there’s something really powerful about how you kept creating all along, even before you allowed yourself to fully claim the title of “artist.” It takes courage to shift that mindset and put your work out into the world, especially learning new skills like digital illustration and self-publishing from scratch. And the fact that you now have four books out there, sharing both your art and your culture, is such a meaningful achievement. I also love how your passion for language and culture is woven into your work, it adds a deeper layer of purpose beyond just creating. It sounds like this past year has been a big leap forward, and it’s exciting that you’re stepping into a space where you can keep growing and learning even more. What kind of projects or ideas are you most excited to explore next?
Is this brilliant or what?
I came across this video on Instagram. As someone whose business is social media marketing I rarely have a business card. I use the Blinq app with a QR code to connect but once I've finished my book I think I may just get some bookmark business cards.

@Lesley Christine, That sounds like a thoughtful and professional idea having a postcard-style card with your book cover on one side and key information on the back could be a great way to leave a lasting impression. It gives people something tangible to remember you by, while also showcasing your work in a visually appealing way. You might consider including a short, engaging description of your book, your name and role, and perhaps a way for people to connect with you afterwards (like a website or social media). Keeping it clean and easy to read will make it even more effective. Are you thinking of keeping the design simple and elegant, or leaning toward something more bold and eye-catching?

@Lesley Christine Okay, that good. Are you eager to work with someone or you are creating it alone?
Choosing a writer’s alias?
Hey there! I’m curious about how one chooses an author’s name. I don’t want to publish all the books I write under my name, only one! lol So how does one choose a self-publishing name? All those who use an alias, do you have a different one for each book genre? Also, feel free to let me know if I'm overthinking this lol… I tend to do that!

@Diane Dwyer That’s really beautiful, there’s something meaningful about how Diaura has evolved alongside you over time. It feels like more than just a name; almost like a thread connecting different chapters of your work, from landscape design to wellbeing. I love the idea of a name growing with the person behind it, carrying its original essence while expanding into something deeper and more holistic. It gives a sense of continuity, but also transformation. Out of curiosity, how do you feel the meaning of Diaura has shifted for you between those earlier days in design and what it represents in your wellbeing work now?

@Diane Dwyer Oh I'm so sorry for the late response I've been quite busy. I tried replying you but it's not delivering, I can't find the problem. Okay good to see you want to connect with her. You can connect with her through Gmail: roselynsandra866@gmail.com💖
Notebook LM to Canva to KDP...Anyone do this Successfully?
I use Canva entirely for my book design. Though I haven't done slides yet. I've been thinking of taking some of the slides that Notebook LM provides and use them. The graphics are outstanding. Any advice on this would be much appreciated. The problem is the slides are horizontal at around 13" x 7.5" so I have to figure a way to make it work in book design. I'm sure there are others who have already solved this issue.

@Janet Wilson That sounds like such a valuable experience. Thank you for sharing it 😊 I love the idea of using that workshop to really clarify your brand voice and then carrying that through into AI tools to keep everything consistent. It makes so much sense, and I can see how powerful that would be over time. I’ll definitely check it out in the classroom. Would you say it’s something that’s more helpful at the beginning of defining your voice, or just as useful if you already have a sense of it but want to refine it?

@Janet Wilson, I’d say a bit of both, honestly. I already had a sense of my brand identity, but this really helped me refine it and bring more clarity to it. It also made it easier to turn those ideas into a solid prompt for AI 😁 How about you? Did it feel more like building something new or refining what you already had?
Struggling to Get Reviews on Your Book?
One of the biggest challenges most authors face isn’t writing the book… it’s getting reviews on it. And if you’ve ever tried, you already know....it’s not easy. It usually looks like: Reaching out to people one by one… Following up (multiple times)… Hoping they actually read your book… And then still ending up with little to show for it I’ve been there more times than I can count. It tests your patience REAL quick. But I will say… it does work if you stay consistent. ➡️ That said, there is an easier way. If you want to speed things up, I recommend checking out BookVillage. It’s a platform built specifically to help authors get legitimate book reviews by connecting you with real readers who are actually interested in your type of book. Instead of chasing people down, you’re putting your book in front of readers who are already there to review books. Here’s why I like it: - You get access to a network of active readers - It removes a lot of the manual outreach - It helps you build early traction faster (which Amazon loves) 🎉 TRY BOOKVILLAGE TODAY! 🚀 And right now, you can test it out with a free trial + discount, which makes it a no-brainer to at least try. If getting reviews has been slowing you down, this could save you a LOT of time and frustration. Pro Tip: Don’t rely on just one method. Use platforms like this, plus your own outreach (email list, social, community, etc.), to stack reviews faster. If you’ve struggled with reviews before, drop a comment...I want to hear what’s been the hardest part for you 👇

@Adriano Ferrigno Thanks, I've been working with the person, for a long time, and her work has been perfect, to be sincere. How do you get review for your books?

@Adriano Ferrigno Thank you for sharing this, your approach with BookVillage sounds thoughtful, especially the emphasis on genuine, reader-driven feedback. I appreciate the point about verified purchases. Authentic engagement definitely matters, and I agree that feedback from readers who have actually bought and read the book tends to be more meaningful and credible. At the same time, I’m trying to balance that with early-stage feedback that can help refine the work before it reaches a wider audience. I’ll consider your advice, particularly regarding avoiding unverified or promotional reviews that might not add real value. Out of curiosity, how does your platform ensure that feedback remains both honest and constructive while still being tied to verified purchases?
