Aloha! 🤙
My name is Fernando. I live in Honolulu and recently retired after spending over 30 years working in public health across NYC, Miami Beach, and Washington, D.C. I have expertise in sexual health, STD prevention, risk reduction therapy, counseling, and life coaching. Feel free to ask me about any of these topics or about my hometown in Hawai'i. Now that I have more free time, I began working on myself with a psychologist and psychiatrist, and I found out I have ADHD at age 60. My goals here are: 1. To understand how the ADHD brain functions and how I can leverage it to become the best version of myself. 2. To connect with others who share similar experiences so we can learn and support each other on our ADHD journeys. 3. To fight isolation. 🫥 For fun, I enjoy hiking, singing in my community choir, and having sunset picnics. Love living in Waikiki! I also want to share pictures of my beautiful cat, Agatha (Aggie). She's currently my main companion, emotional support, and hiking buddy. 😻
Aloha! 🤙

Daunting traits I can't shake HELP!
Hello excited to find my people! Learning about ADHD is fascinating. I have three sons and all are ADHD! That's how I found out I was ADHD 😲 Tinitis since childhood, ANXIETY ATTACKS since 9 yrs old. I still get them I can't shake them. They are daunting and relentless. The only thing I can take is lorazepam to stop it. Repetitive intrusive thoughts, like a record that skips and keeps playing again and again. Anyone have any ideas that might have helped them I'd appreciate it -✌️Randi

I found that practicing mindfulness helps reduce rumination. Mine are often repetitive thoughts about music! I observe them without judgment, thinking, "Isn't this interesting?" Then, I intentionally shift my attention elsewhere. This approach works most of the time and improves with practice. I began by using guided mindfulness meditation videos on YouTube.
Beeing acountable to myself as I am to others
Just started the ADHD Awakening Assessment and already had a moment. I realized I never miss a dinner with a friend, a doctor's appointment, or a meeting, but I'll skip the things I plan just for myself. Turns out my brain runs on accountability to other people, and somewhere along the way I stopped counting as one of those people.
I'm a man who is being introduced to himself for the first time.
Just got my ADHD Snapshot, and one line stopped me: I spent my whole life believing I was an ordinary man having an extraordinary life. Turns out it was the other way around. For sixty years, I ran a quiet narrative in my head: life was the miracle, I was just the lucky guy along for the ride. Now, the math has flipped, and I'm being asked to accept something harder than being ordinary. I was the rare thing all along... I'm not behind. I'm finally on time. Day 1, here I come!
I love this ADHD Harmony’s AI
Just complete section 2 of my Snapshot. It named something I've been carrying for years without recognizing it as grief. Turns out the cycle I keep falling into isn't a character flaw. It's my nervous system replaying an old recording from childhood. That reframe alone changes how I see everything I've been fighting against. So fun, got my motivation back. Thank you
