Flute Music by French Composers (Moyse)
This collection is often treated as repertoire, but it also functions as a training ground. Many of these works were written for students of the Paris Conservatory, shaped by the demands of the Prix de Rome era, where control, clarity, and consistency mattered as much as musical expression. Winning was one outcome. The deeper work was the ability to perform these pieces with composure, accuracy, and intent under pressure. This question is not about favorites or rankings. It is not an essay. Question: What aspects of the French Flute pieces edited by Moyse clearly demonstrate their etudinal nature? Please share specific examples, whether technical, musical, or structural, that illustrate how these works shape a flutist’s development. New? Have you played any music from Flute Music by French Composers?

7-Day Flute Tone & Practice Reset Challenge!
This week I thought it would be fun to start a 7-day challenge! Participation is optional but encouraged and this challenge can be started at any time (if you are seeing this post later). Day 1: Breathe & Begin Today is about starting gently. No fixing or judging. Just notice what you are feeling and hearing. Practice (10–15 minutes): Do 2 minutes of relaxed breathing without the flute then do long tones in the middle register. Focus on ease, not volume. Comment below: Where are you holding tension: jaw, shoulders, hands? What did you notice about your breath or body today?
tension in my wrist. My breath was good. thanks
Day 7: Your New Tone Ritual
Welcome to Day 7 of the 7-Day Flute Tone & Practice Reset Challenge! You made it to Day 7! Well done. 🎉 Practice (15–20 minutes): - Create a 5-minute tone warm-up you genuinely like - Play one piece or melody just for joy - Reflect on the week What helped your tone the most this week? What is ONE habit you’re taking with you after this challenge?
