Slow Days
So I have had plenty of slow days since I started my business. They feel different to me than the slow days I've had when working in a shop for someone else. Anybody else feel that way? Last month was good and this month has been fantastic up until today. I had 1 small job today and nothing else on the schedule. I know the phone will ring and it will pick back up, but it makes my mind wonder and get negative thoughts going.

I am having the same problem. I have been doing pretty good and now it seems like the last 3 weeks have been slower than the prior weeks. With me not having much time in the biz, I am just thinking this is a seasonal thing.

Too many sockets?
I have been running my mobile mechanic biz now for about 6 months and I know I have way too many socket sets I carry around with me. When your a shop mechanic and you have a huge tool box or multiple tool boxes it is not a big of a deal. However, being mobile, space and weight is a premium. I know cars as of the early 2000's all standardized on metric, but I have been very concerned that I will run into a nut/bolt that I don't have a tool for. So, I have been carrying EVERYTHING. When I watch Ben or other mobile mechanic's they all seem to have 1-4 rows of sockets and that is it. So, I have some questions. 1. Do you guys carry SAE sockets? If so, what do you carry? 2. Do you guys carry both chrome and impact? If so, which sets do you carry with both? 3. Do you guys carry both deep and shallow for 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 sets? 4. What sets are you guys carrying any why? AC Diag
I am losing my mind. This is my personal vehicle and I started trying to fix this AC system before I started my biz. Since I have fixed a few AC issues and had some spare time, I thought I would give it a stab again. However, I am losing my mind trying to figure it out. Before I started learning how to diagnose, I took a parts cannon to it. So, don't judge too much... LOL Here is the data I have. - 2014 GMC Acadia with rear ac. - Replaced the compressor, lines, both expansion valves, pressure sensor and the condenser which includes the dryer. - Before I start the car the pressures are equalized. - After I start the car the clutch engages and the pressures are 35-40 and 180-200 - The lines don't really get hot or cold. I still can't get this thing to remotely blow cold. What am I missing?

@Gary Warner I do have one blend door actuator that is bad. However, the rest of the car seems fine. I do plan on replacing the one blend door, but I didn't want to do that until I figured out why it's not blowing cold

The AC compressor died. This was before I was certified so I had to pay a shop to extract my refrigerant
AC Charge and Recovery
I am epa 608 Type I, II, III and 609 certified. So, I am able to work with refrigerant chemicals. I was recently watching some of @Ben Dellaria videos on youtube. I noticed he will charge a system, just to see if there is a leak or compressor problem. Then he will "Take back" his refrigerant for reuse later. It was my understanding that once chemicals go into a system and it gets recovered, it shouldn't be used again. Some of the reasons being, high potential of particulate contamination and/or moisture. These issues could happen due to a leak or a compressor failure. However, he seems to be doing this with great success and efficiency. What is going on here? Is my understanding wrong? Does that Robin machine do something I don't know about? I am really want to learn why he is able to work so efficiently. P.S. @Ben Dellaria, I don't mean to talk about you like your not around. I just wanted to phrase the question in a way were other could respond if they felt they know the answer too.

Interesting. I don't have one of those machines yet and I didn't know they had filters in them to get the contaminates out. I love your approach because it is so efficient.
