Are any of you experimenting with AI photo generators? If you are, feel free to share any amazing photos that you have produced My go-to is definitely Grok Imagine. With the mission to make a new cover photo for my weekly Skool hangout, this is what I got. From a distance, it kind of looks like me. When you get up close, it is definitely not me. Why did I add an Optimus Robot, I hear you say? Did you know we are surprisingly close to having full access to these robots in our homes and workplace? Within the next couple of years in fact. The questions that arise over how we are going to interact with these robots fascinate me so much. @Daniel Halls Do you think they are going to be better at human skills than humans are?

I’m a Wee Bit Excited
Today for the first time in Dave history, I’m advertising an active course that I made, on LinkedIn. - It means I’m ready to go. - It means I’m ready to learn what my perfect customer needs, so I can adjust and tailor it to suit. - It means I’ve finally got the capacity to build and manage an online course and the community that comes with it. - It means I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me to ensure the way I’m sharing the course resonates around the global LinkedIn community so that it actually sells, then provides transformation. This is the hard part as far as I’m concerned. Sales is not my bag. The course is my Human Factors Kickstart course, designed for the up and coming young operators that see value in developing the human skills required to be a solid operator within the workplace or cockpit. It’s an exciting time and I’ve got the developers of Skool to thank for it. This platform really does make it super easy.

The 3 Biggest Mistakes I See People Make in Safety
- Fixating on individual blame over systemic context. Blaming the sharp-end worker while ignoring latent issues like inadequate training, production pressure, unclear procedures, or normalisation of deviance. - Weak safety cultures where folks hide errors due to fear of punishment, stunting learning. Fix the context driving the behaviour , and allow a safe and protected speak up culture. - Half-hearted HOP adoption, preaching error is normal but punishing it anyway. Not building psychological safety so people hide mistakes or near-misses → no learning, same traps repeat. Half-assed HOP adoption: saying error is normal but still punishing people, or slapping learning teams on top of an old blame culture without changing how leaders respond to failure. Did you notice these are all human related threats. Changing culture to beat these threats is challenging. A safety leader has to live and breath systems based approach (SBA) in order to have a win over behavioural based safety (BBS).

You’ve nailed the core issue: these are all cultural challenges, and culture change is brutally hard. Your point about half-hearted HOP adoption really resonates. One factor I’ve noticed is that HOP isn’t taught at university level and lacks the rigorous research base that Human Factors has. This means organisations are often adopting it as a philosophy without the structured frameworks, evidence base, or proper training that would support genuine implementation. Leaders end up with the language of HOP but not the deep systems thinking required to actually change how they respond to failure. It becomes performative rather than transformative. Looking good rather than being good. Would love to see more empirical research that could give practitioners better tools for the culture change work you’re describing. Cheers

In the past I would have said bottom up. Now I’d like to try something different. Not my idea, I actually got it from David Marquet’s book Turn The Ship Around. It’s called act your way to new thinking. I can’t really do it justice in this comment but essentially: get the key players together from management and frontline and ask the question… How would we know the culture has improved? What would look/feel/be different? How would we talk to or about each other? Then start doing it/changing it with intention, creating a wave of early adopters and influencers towards the desired outcome. Call it think global, act local, or intentional design, it would be a great experiment.

I think of it like a volume knob, this season of the year I turn the knob down but still do something related to the habit goal, maintaining long term momentum, but also getting in some deep relaxation/recovery/disconnection etc. There is a great habit hacking community led by Colin Hiles that’s well worth a follow. Learnt tons of habit hacking tips there using his micro momentum method!
