I met my (now) husband.
Nobody gets what I'm doing and why, how about your situation?
I know nobody around me actually understand what it means to me. It's not a hobby on weekends, it's actually a discipline now. If I discovered something dope, there's no one to share my happiness with, if I'm struggling, there's no one to talk to. I'm not saying it's so dramatic. Nobody's telling me to quit or that it's stupid, but it's just these quiet blank stares. After my vacation this year I realized it much much clearly, there's actually no one who understands why it matters to me. They know my focus on music production, but they avoid this topic completely. Oh well... and on top of it, eh...I can't share any of this with my father who's been constantly disapproving everything I do in life. So... this place is the only community I have. But how about you? What is your situation with your surrounding? do you feel someone understands what you're doing and why? What's your story?

I get where you’re coming from. I’ll spend hours and hours writing, arranging, mixing and mastering a song and I’ll be very happy with the outcome. Then I play it for my husband and he doesn’t appreciate it because he’s literally tone deaf. But he supports me and allows me to do my thing even though he doesn’t get it. And that’s all I ask. But the important thing is that I love the process and do it for myself - it fulfills me deeply. If no one else cares or even likes it, that’s ok. I’m doing it for me - not anyone else.

Use references. Otherwise it’s like driving a car with a blindfold.
AI...
AI.... SOooooo.... thought I might throw out a 'controversial' topic.... what do peeps think of using AI generated parts in their music? Are you having success? Inspiration? I know I have been very pleasantly surprised in a variety of ways and would love to hear your experiences. :D

@Lisa Carton I’ve been writing and arranging my own songs for a few decades and I used to sing them myself which was scary. I generally write/work alone and don’t wanna spend hundreds or thousands of dollars per song hiring a singer in a studio. I decided to try an AI vocal software where you enter your lyrics and notes, pick a voice, and give it direction on how to sing the phrases. While not as good as a professional, with some work it’s about 90% there. My songs sound so much better and it’s perfectly fine for a demo and to showcase my writing and arranging abilities. I don’t see any issue with this. IMO It’s the same as using a drum machine instead of a real drummer or any Virtual Instrument and I’m not certainly not telling everyone “hey, this is me singing.” I can easily create harmonies and vocal arrangements and change notes on the fly if something doesn’t sound good to me, as opposed to my having to re-record a phrase 10 times to get one semi-decent take. And I’m enjoying the process much more than ever because I don’t have to record my crappy singing voice, which was the most frustrating part. I also find that my creativity level has increased, probably because the vocals, which used to be the worst part of the equation, is now much better than ever.
Sync Licensing Question
Hey guys, I got an email saying it is from Spirit Music Group and a song of mine has been selected for a Netflix feature film. I first felt it was a scam however I submitted a brief questionaire which didn't ask any questions I felt could be used to scam me. Tonight I received a contract which looks legit however under one section titled "Administration Fee" it states "to secure and facilitate the guaranteed placement the artist agrees to pay a one-time, upfront, fully refundable administration fee". Is this a common practice? Unfortunately the Spirit Music Group website has no contact submission or I would ask them directly. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

@David Moore Glad I could help. I don't really think AI is needed to pull off a scam like this. There are many sites - some are free - that can generate a typical Sync or Publishing License. It's very easy to register a domain name and have it redirect - no coding knowledge needed. And all the info and names they provided are easily found on the internet.

@David Moore Multiply $293.80 x 1000+ hopeful people, and it's well worth it for them.
