An Experience I'll Never Forget.
On Saterday, my wife and I went to a whiskey tasting event, and had an amazing time. There was over 50 vendors and we sampled quite a bit. They only poured 1/4 of an ounce to taste, but that was plenty to taste the notes and enjoy it, while not being too much as to ruin the next tasting. There had to be over 400 people at this event, it was packed and loud with everyone talking. It business/cocktail attire, and I feel I fit that bill with what I was wearing. I tend to dress smart casual on the daily (when I'm not working) so I don't get to dress up for events often, and I have to say it was fun. I thought about it for over 2 weeks, everything from the color of my shirt, color of my pocket square and even how I would fold it. I knew I wanted to wear a poppy, so I picked a red pocket square to go with it and even wore my watch that has a green dial as to go with the green second of the poppy (no one noticed how I matched all that but I knew and that's all that matters). I even wore my scarf that my wife knitted me out of casmire and merino wool for the walk to and from the event as a layering piece to show depth. Even though I took it off when I got there, it was the experience of wearing it and having it protect the back of my neck, and knowing my wife made this for me that made me more then happy to wear it for the short time. If you are a fan of whiskey and want to try new whiskeys, I highly recommend going to a tasting as you will have a large variety to try. We got the VIP tickets as that gave us early access to whiskey that others wouldn't get to try. It was definitely worth it, there were whiskeys there that only we could taste, which made it that more special. This event had a catered dinner, your own Glencairn glass that you get to take home, and a DJ that played music to set the mood for a great evening. I was lucky my wife (who isn't much of a whisky drinker at all) took pictures of the bottles that I liked, and took notes as we went from booth to booth. She knew what notes I like, so she found them in the list of whiskeys available and took me from booth to booth so I could sample ones she thought I would like. It was like my personal tour guide and I was appreciated it very much. Everyone there was very knowledgeable and was happy to answer any questions, and to inform you on the story behind the drink you are sampling.
