🟣 Why People Fall: The 5-Second Check
Falls aren’t random, they’re predictable when we know what to look for. Next time someone is about to mobilise, try this quick 5-second check: 👀 Eyes: Are they alert? Do they look dizzy, tired or unsure? 🦶 Feet: Proper footwear? Slippers, loose shoes or bare feet = instant risk. 🧍‍♂️Stance: Are they steady, leaning, swaying or rushing? 🪑 Environment: Is the space clear, well-lit and is their frame within reach? 🧡 Confidence: Do they feel safe and steady to stand? Five seconds. Huge impact. Small checks like this genuinely prevent falls and save lives. What other checks do you use day-to-day?

A 2-Minute Reset for a Busy Mind
I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to barrel through the week on autopilot. Especially in healthcare and caring roles, we give, give, give, and forget to pause. Here’s a tiny reset I use between tasks (takes less than 2 minutes): 1. Drop your shoulders 2. One deep breath in through the nose, long slow exhale 3. Ask yourself: “What actually needs my energy right now?” It’s such a small thing, but honestly… it changes the whole direction of my day. Feel free to try it now and let me know if it helps. What’s your go-to micro-reset?

✨ Yesterday’s Safe Steps Training – What a Day! ✨
I spent yesterday at one of our care homes delivering the full Safe Steps training package, and honestly… what a brilliant group. We covered all 6 modules, and the engagement was spot-on. Lots of open discussion, real-life examples, and genuine curiosity from the team about how to strengthen their falls-prevention approach. The feedback absolutely made my day too, 8 out of 8 staff gave a 5-star rating across every single module. 🙌More importantly, they shared how the insights will help them feel more confident in practice, which is exactly what this training is all about. I always leave these sessions reminded of how much passion there is in social care, and how powerful shared learning can be. Yesterday was no exception. Really proud of this team and grateful for the warm welcome.

Stronger Teams Through Learning
Doing my FREC 4 course last week reminded me just how vital ongoing training is in care. From communication to clinical skills, everything we learn feeds into safer, stronger teams. How do you keep your learning fresh in your role? 👣

Continuous learning = confident care
I’m doing an Emergency First Response (FREC 4) course this week because learning never stops! 💙 I actually love keeping myself updated and learning new things. This one includes refreshing my ILS (Immediate Life Support) and yes, that means ECG interpretation too, which has always been a bit of a challenge for me! 😅 But I love meeting new people and sharing experiences there’s always something to learn from others’ stories and ways of working. What’s one skill or bit of learning that’s made the biggest difference in your role recently? Let’s see what knowledge we can share this week 👇
