My Learning Journey So Far… (Vocal Focused/VIP Subscription)
I plan to use this simply as a public journal. My notes will heavily focus on what I find most interesting and pertinent to the music I’m producing, which is focused mostly on vocals, with piano accompaniment (maybe sometimes Ukulele, if I can figure out how to record my daughter playing it). Because of that, I will still go through the lessons focused on other things (like drums, and stuff), but will not likely have many (if any) notes about that stuff (so NOT comprehensive). I also have the VIP Subscription, so this may have notes on stuff you do not yet have access to (which may or may not be confusing—I don’t know). Please also note that I don’t promise that my notes will be completely accurate, as I may not fully understand something when I make a note about it. Completed courses: - Start Here (Premium & VIP) - Intro to Small/Home Studio - Check-In Booking & Replay Links - Major DAW Tutorials: Logic Quickstart - Logic Pro 11 Complete Tutorial Next courses: - Vocal Intensive - Music Production 101 - Music Production 102 Later maybe (I don’t know yet): - NYC Recording Masterclass - NYC Mixing Masterclass - Mixing with Stock Plugins - How to Use an Equalizer - How to Use Compression - How to Use Reverb - How to Mix Like a Pro - How to Master Your Music - Cheat Sheets & Resources - Mixing & Mastering Cheat Sheets - Event Replays - Music Production for Beginners [NOTE: focused on producing beats, according to Luke Despain. Not likely I’ll use that.] - How to Produce Modern Pop

NOTES ON “Logic Pro 11 Complete Tutorial: SECTION 2” [NOTE: Starting in this section, I’ll give timestamps for each major part of the lessons.) Lesson 1 - Intermediate Audio Editing Time Stretching and Pitch Shifting (0:00) 1. Transpose key/pitch (Inspector -> Region -> Transpose) - Fine Tune (just below Transpose) to make small adjustment 2. Change tempo: - Option “click & drag bottom corner of track” to speed up (shorten) or slow down (lengthen). - Right click region in track -> Tempo -> Apply Project Tempo to Region and Downbeat Flex Time (6:08) 1. Only useable with audio tracks, not MIDI (to do it with MIDI, you must Bounce the MIDI first to make it an audio track). 2. AWESOME TOOL!!! Would have saved me dozens of hours, had I known about this a few months ago! Flex Pitch (25:59) 1. Also great, even though I don’t think I fully understand this one. Will need to review another time. 2. Not perfect, as can sometimes confuse 2 notes as one, so will have to divide them with the scissors tool. 3. Editor window is good to use. 4. Can “quantize” with Flex Pitch as well to bring everything closer to perfect pitch to a set amount. 5. Can change drift pitch and vibrato. 6. Above the tracks -> Edit -> Analyze Audio for Flex Editing. 7. Flex Pitch can also be turned on in the Inspector window for the track. Audio Quantization Techniques (36:33) 1. Inspector -> Quantize -> Make Groove Template 2. Quantize other tracks to the newly created groove template 3. Can be applied to vocals too! Lesson 2 - Intermediate MIDI Editing 1. MIDI Controller Assignments (0:00) - (With a plugin open and the selected window, go to) Logic Pro menu -> Control Surfaces -> Learn Assignment for “YOUR SELECTED PLUGIN” (OR: Command L) 1. Arpeggiator plugin (3:38) 2. Chord Trigger plugin (28:20) 3. Modifier plugin (37:25) - Rather wonderful tool if you have the audio interface that it can take advantage of it, so you can customize the knobs on your interface.

Track Stacks (7:07) - Folder stacks & Summing stacks. 3. Environment Window (16:55) - Command 0 to open the Environment Window [NOTE: That is a zero, not a letter O.] 4. VCA & AUX Tracks (23:35) - VCA = Voltage Controlled Amplifier 5. Score Editor (30:15) 6. Surround Sound Mixing [Dolby Atmos] (33:40) - Very interesting! 7. Flex Grid & Snap Modes (38:10) - Especially helpful when working on audio for film, which normally will have you working in frame rate instead of BPM. 8. Project Alternatives (48:20) - File -> Project Alternative 9. External Instrument Plugin (50:53) Lesson 2 - Workflow Techniques 1. Key Commands & Customization (0:00) - R = record - K = metronome - S = solo track - M = mute track - Y = library - I = inspector - A = automation lanes - G = global tracks - O = loops browser - Spacebar = play/stop - Command S = save project - Command Z = undo - Shift Command Z = redo - Option Command Z = undo history window - Option K = key command window - Option P = project settings - Command , = general settings [NOTE: that is Command “COMMA”] - P = piano roll - C = cycle - E = editor - Return = set playhead to beginning of project - , = jump back/rewind [NOTE: that is a COMMA] - . = jump forward [NOTE: that is a PERIOD] 2. Nice!
If Santa offered to bring you a single piece of audio gear…
What would it be? Right now… for me it would be a toss up between a Massive Passive, Pultec… or The Swift from Thermionic Culture. I’ll let you know if I decide 🤷‍♂️
