Why Is Writing Lyrics So Stressful?
Let’s talk honestly. Writing lyrics sounds romantic… until you sit down and face the blank page. You overthink. You compare yourself .You delete more than you write. You wonder if it’s good enough. Stress doesn’t come from writing It comes from wanting it to be perfect. But here’s the truth: Some of the best songs were written from confusion, not clarity. Question for you: 👉 What stresses you the most when writing lyrics finding ideas, rhyming, structure, or self-doubt? Let’s talk about it.

@TiMMY Merz That’s really powerful, and I agree vulnerability creates a connection technique alone can’t replace. But do you think listeners truly separate skill from emotion, or is the real magic when technical ability becomes invisible and only the feeling remains? Sometimes I wonder if great vocal control isn’t about impressing people, but actually giving the artist more freedom to express that raw truth you’re talking about. What do you think?

@Neil Speers That actually says a lot about you as an artist you’re clearly led by emotion and storytelling first, not perfection, and that’s where real connection lives. What I often notice is that the strongest performers don’t choose between emotion and technique… they learn how technique quietly supports the emotion so the listener feels freedom instead of distraction. Jazz singers do this beautifully they bend timing or pitch intentionally, not accidentally. Do you feel the moments when your technique slips are a conscious emotional choice, or sometimes just your body reacting while you’re deep in the story? That’s usually where I help artists turning instinct into controlled expression without losing authenticity.
🎤 SINGER CHECK BE HONEST
Every singer has that one thing we secretly do… Some of us warm up for 30 minutes like professionals…Some say my voice is tired today but still attempt high notes Some record 40 takes and somehow choose take #3…Some turn every song into harmony without permission And some of us are full concert performers… only in the shower But let’s talk real singer life… Are you the studio perfectionist, the stage energy machine, the emotional storyteller, the car concert superstar, or the family-forced singer anytime people say sing something for us ? As singers, we know it’s not only about technique sometimes it’s confidence, sometimes emotion, sometimes practice… and sometimes just surviving voice cracks at the wrong moment So tell me quickly which singer are YOU? describe yourself!

@TiMMY Merz Haha I love that sounds like you create purely from instinct, which is honestly where the most authentic performances come from. But I’m curious… if every take becomes a new version, how do you decide which one represents your true artistic voice and not just the moment’s emotion? That’s actually where things like vocal warm-ups and performance control help not to limit creativity, but to give you the freedom to recreate magic whenever you want. Have you ever noticed certain parts of your voice feel easier or stronger depending on the day?
Reference for Faith Marie song
I know that during the Fix the Mix, I ask the question but I did not wrote the actual reference thinking I could get on the replay. BUt the replay does not have the chat during the class. Does anybody remember what was the reference track provided then?

I remember that session too sometimes the chat doesn’t appear in the replay unfortunately. Do you remember anything about the reference track? Maybe the genre, artist style, or part of the mix that was discussed? That might help us narrow it down together. Looking forward to your reply. Just to better support you, are you looking for feedback on vocal style, arrangement, or overall performance direction? I’d be happy to help once I know what specific area you’d like us to focus on. Looking forward to hearing more from you!
CUBASE USERS ANYONE ?
Does anybody no how to do gain automation inside cubase without it effecting the faders ????? I’ve watched may videos & live sessions here & always see them using the gain plugin in Logic whilst automating. I can’t seem to find how to do it inside cubase. If anybody knows please feel free to let me know. Many thanks

@Paddy Freethinkers-Inc Using pre-gain before inserts and handling automation after effects sounds like a very clean workflow. I like the idea of keeping the faders mainly for mix balance because it keeps everything flexible during the process. Quick question: do you normally gain-stage to a specific level before hitting your plugins like −18 dBFS, or do you adjust based on the track and genre?
